Hey UcC. You shouldnt be so down on that 10000 count bag of mexican jumping beans you got buddy. Id be willing to bet that slab of ditch weed you showed us is not representative of the genetics in those seeds. Im sure the quality that weed had intentions of being when it germinated was bastardized by the greedy cartel bastards who grew and handeled it after harvest. There is probably no end to the characteristics of the multitude of phenotypes in that bag. Im anxious to see what you get from those that you started. Heres to pleasant surprises. Peace.
Yeah I thought the same, and when I first started growing years ago I was impressed with the size/quality/vigor of the seeds that came from schwaggy bags, but throughout the several years I grew in the past, and through this first round after re-starting recently, and the ONLY plant that didnt turn hermie on me was the one seed a buddy gave me from a bag of kindbud. I always assumed in the past that I was causing the hermies, either light leaks or stress or temp or something I was doing. I switched from soil to hydro and tried several methods of hydro and always got amazing growth but NEVER ONCE got a SINGLE plant through harvest without sprouting bananas and seeding up. This last round of 15, 14 were bagseeds and they were all male/herm. I finally put it all together after this round where I know that they werent stressed, and grew next to a quality seed under the same conditions that didnt turn, that it is due to their genetics. The mexican weed farms simply sew their seeds in the beginning of the season, and if they make the effort to clear out the males, there will still be a few that make it, and a few that will naturally turn hermie due to environmental stresses, then these herms will pollinate dozens of other plants inthe area, enough that when the plants are harvested and processed for transport, they shake out and collect as many seeds as they can (pounds worth, enough to re-sew the fields for the next season) If a percentage of those are pre-disposed to turn hermie, they will likely be missed when the males are pulled, only to survive to produce more hermie seeds until pretty soon a farms entire supply of seeds is pre-disposed to produce herms. Like I said before, Ive tried for years to grow with mexican schwag seeds and find it impossible to grow sinsimilla. I wont explain why, again Im not a cop, but my situation made it difficult to get quality seeds, but I got to the point of quitting growing cuz I got tired of spending time/effort to grow seeded crap. But I was finally able to get some seeds which I will take clones from and hopefully will never have to grow unknown strains agian
I have a journal that I originally used to document my setup from day one, up to about week 6 (when all had been thinned out but the single indica). You can see how nicely they came along and how excited I got every time I put a bush into flower and it sprouted pistils, only to have to kill it a few days later.
