So I came across both of these lights. They are verticle mount lights. I am currently running both of them for my grow and am only in day 5. I was just wondering the pros and cons or expierences if any of running both different lights through the whole grow. I have read ppl like mh for veg and hps for flowering but I cant find anyone else who has used both for the whole thing because I want 800w enstead of 400w at a time...lol....anything is helpful

ya well mh is better for veg and hps better for flower, but hps + mh will be better for veg and flower than either one on its own so keep em both on

I have the same setup (400w HPS and 400w MH) and use both for flowering. For vegging I use cfls and an old Mini FloraLux 150w HPS that I picked up years ago when I first started growing.

Also, I read somewhere (don't remember where) that MH in the last 1-2 weeks increases bud development.

Imho Mh > Hps
Well sure if you like vegging your plants then putting them into flower without a proper spectrum and getting 3/4 of the yeild you could have got then for sure... but if you have both i would set up a 400W MH Veg Room and a 400w HPS room for Flowering

Seriously, I think a 400w MH is a waste for vegging. I've done it before and feel that using the cfls does just as good a job without the extra energy drain. Plus you can have the cfls a lot closer cutting down on stretching and the plants will better use all the light in the flowering stage. Just IMO.

you can have a plant 5 feet from a 1000w MH with no stetching at all. plants stretch the most at night anyway. if you want to prevent the red light stretch, you'll need to keep the night temps almost as high as day temps.

I use a 800 watt duel spectrum light, its a hood that contains 1 400watt MH and 1 400 watt HPS and I use that for veg and flower, full spectrum, as close to the sun as possible in my opinion, and the sun does the best. I get huge plants with thick stems check my gallery.

Well definetly lots of opinions....ha....this is my first grow so I think I am going to use both as long as i dont have a heat problem I guess.... I found a hydroponics store today which is badass and got some cloning gel and nutes! But I was thinking to use both untill I induce flowering and set up two rooms but smaller so they can use the light....and clone my weakest plant just to try and keep another harvest instead of waiting 60+days.....just a thought.....thanks for all the opinions!!!!!!!

Actually, you want to take clones from your best plants.

I have read your supposed to take your strongest which makes sense....wanna keep the best genes going...my only thought behind the weakest was if I mess it up with it being my first attempt....I guess its not supposed to stress mom to much so I wouldnt do much damage to the stongest plant....Thanks for all the post....I will continue my endless search of knowledge to fuel this addiction that has overtaken all my free time and cross that bridge when it comes.
