^^^^^ what ?

It will work , but is not the best way or anywhere near as reliable , survival rate will be alot less,

Clonex gel , some rooting cubes will save you alot of stress.

yes u can do that... takes a little longer plus u cant really tell when its rooted. only when u start seeing new growth. if u do want to do that place a sandwich bag over it... u want high humidity when u use things like that... rapid rooter, rockwool, soil etc.

Okay thanks guys
Why don't you just put them in a glass of water ?
If you are intent on using a " no thrills " method " at least you will be able to see if they root ,
alot less depressing than watching them flop dead...

That is the best and correct answer. No asshole opinion, no one asking you why you would do it, etc....Just straight up fact. You asked, he answered. We need more like it on this site.

Reps to this guy for not being "one of those" that all to often have to throw in a bullshit opinion with an answer.

So I just came across this thread and Im going to attempt cloning some Emerald Jack and Kandy Kush in a few weeks. Can you just put them in water like flowers? My first effort was a couple weeks back and I left them in a bottle of water, they actually looked good because they were long cuttings...then I put them in soil and they went for shit. Experimenting is half the fun but i want some successful ones for my spring/summmer project.

Half-gallon black pots work well. Fill halfway full with soil, saturate soil with water, take a clone and scratch the bottom of the stem until the fuzz comes off and it's slimy, dip that in rooting powder, stick your finger in the soil and make a hole to put the clone in, lightly pack soil around the stem of the clone up to the first set of leaves. Tape half of a ziplock bag (plastic wrap is too thin) over the top of the pot but don't seal it completelyt, just tape the corners and sides of the bag, place directly under a CFL or whatever. Make sure there is humidity collecting on the inside of the ziplock bag the next day. Open it up every couple of days and make sure the soil stays moist. After a week or so remove ziplock bag, clone should explode into growth.

Works like a charm.

You can just stick it in soil, but without any rooting hormone, i don't know if it will take.I just did my first attempt at cloning i took one off each of my 5 plants, i used Clonex and stuck them straight into soil they are doing great.

If it has to do with the cost of the cloning gel, you can buy the rooting gel at Wal-mart in there garden area for under $5 i'm going to try it next time to see how it works compared to the $23 clonex.
