ok so im new to the site nd i just had a quik question. Iv'e germenating seeds with the paper towel method. And i wait until the seeds crack and put them in some potting soil with out nutes just plain old potting soil. i put about 8 seeds in the soil a week ago and still no sprouts i barely even bury under the surface of the soil not even an inch down with the root tip pointing down then i cover with some soil and mist it with water until its starts to drain out the bottom of the pot then i put them in a sunny spot in my back yard the soil never dries out i make sure its always moist could someone tell me what i am doing wrong:?::!:

I am a newbie myself and know next to nothing but where are you? Seeds require warmth to sprout so if you are putting them outside in under 70 degree weather the chances are you are killing them.

This is just a guess but an often correct guess. Keeping them too wet, dig them up as mentioned and squeeze them and see if they resemble a zit popping...more often than not sprouts and young plants are killed with love, attention and too much water......

personally i make sure the seed is only a couple of ml down(nowhere near an inch). also like to make sure they have a reasonable size root aswell. i also water the soil until i get run off, i always hold the pot just off the floor to make sure its got good drainage and not waterlogged. then put the seed in and put the pot in a dark warm place. i never put under the lights until its broken up through the soil. if your putting them outdoors there are some insects that will eat the root on the seedling so be careful.

well i got thu problem fixed it wasnt cold or temps its just me ive had zero succsess with the paper towel method but now i have a new method i just get my seed nd put them in a shot glass with slightly warm water i wait until most of the seeds sink probably 8-10 hours i then drain the water get the seeds nd put them into the soil same depth nd everything then i put them outside and have had 95% germination rate!! ive had sprouts as soon as 1 nd a half days :o i guess the paper towel method just isnt for me .

The best way to germinate a seed is to put the seed, usually with tweezers onto cotton wool or soft tissue onto saucer, add clean ph neutral water, keep it moist, not drenched or soaked in a glass as this will drown the sensitive shoot. The saucer should b kept in a warm place e.g airing cupboard etc til the seed crax & grows out, then after slight growth, move gently with tweezers, never fingers, this can damage the shoot, make small pit, depth of cm & cover, later water, check water ph.

The best way to germinate seeds is to do what nature has done for millions of years and stick them in dirt.
