Bucket color dictates water temps?

No, it's cool about the posts. I like the cooler idea, looks awesome. I made one similar to that but out of an 18 gallon tote, but it leaked alot lol. I had to put it inside a bigger tote to catch the water and had to use a cup to bail the water out of the bigger tote back into the smaller tote on a daily basis. How leak proof is the cooler?

I dont like painting buckets, it introduces foriegn contaminates into the system, regardless of how much you think it adhered. But if your really concerned with algae growth, throw another air pump in the mix. A couple air stones in that res will regulate temp and block algae growth :bigjoint:But if your really set on new buckets Go to lowes or homedepot, get the heavy duty Rubbermaid totes, gray bottom white top. I use that under a 1000 wt lamp just 26"s over and water stays 65 all day.

Sounds great dbkick. I am always on the look out for new ideas and new ways of how to grow, vegetables and flowers that is, lol.

When I had a problem with water temps, I put all my pumps in my attic so the intake on the pump gets cold air and blows it through the air stone.

Solved my problem right away, went from 75+ temps 24/7 to 63-70 24/7

dbkick is right, by the way. Just because YOU didn't have a problem at a higher degree, doesn't mean it's not right. Who's to say that your grow room is very clean and sterilized and has no room for slime to kick in? Who's to say you don't change your buckets rapidly enough that they don't even have time to form. Who's to say you're not putting sterilizing agents in your res such as h2o2 solution or enzymes?
Who's to say anything about your grow? Gaurantee this, put some bacteria in your bucket and keep the temps at 75. Next week, you won't be happy.

Another reason he says 70F is around the "safe zone" is because of oxygenating levels. Science has proven that water is like double the amount of oxygenation at 60F compared to 75F. Colder temps = more oxygen = more nutrient uptake = more water uptake = healthier roots = less problems.

around 80 is wen u start gettin the slimy bullshit.. and ull start root rot.. so im a have to say.. optimal temps are like 70-75

I don't know how anyone's res temp gets above 70 unless the room is well above 70. I had a heat spike under the lights today to 82, and even then the temp on the res (not under in the water which would have been cooler still) was 68.

Even so, Jorge Cervantes says res temps are OK at 75. I think anyone with a res temp problem has a bigger underlying problem with something somewhere. But whatever, the people who sell chillers have to eat too I guess.

Illegal Smile, lights = heat. When lights are on temps will go up, unless you have an A/C unit in the room. Room size is 6X7X7, temp by the door stays around 78-80, temp by buckets stay at a constant 80-85. So if water, or anything else for that matter stays in there long enough it will become the same temp. There is an oscilating fan blowing on full speed sitting near an air intake, inline fan, I think it's 440cfm pulling air out. Basement air temp ranges around 68, and that is the air that is being pulled into the room. Only have two 600w MH lights going. So I'm not sure where the problem is with the room temps being so high, maybe I should somehow pull air from the outside (20F. right now), and maybe that would help lower air temps.

water temp up to 80 degrees imo. i run airpump 24/7 anyways and i have mine rigged to suck air from my lights exhaust(co2 environment). when that hot air pumps into my aerocloner it makes it so humid this is my key to getting 2 day clones. nothing organic, tap water (day or 2 old), and hormex 1 ml per gal. that is it. the air pump also aerated my tea as you said perfect for microbactieria and my regular water never really thought about the DO. figure i would have problems if temp was lower bcuz i leave the air pump on 24/7 maybe to much DO but its soil i work in if i was working with hydro 70 degree water is a must.

I'm sorry but I'm going to have to say to not listen to these peoples advice if you're experiencing problems. If you like your water temps at 80, more power to ya. However, by cooling your res temps to 65-75, your roots will love you and you will never hit high temps again.

In order to achieve this, get a 1/2 inch line going from the intake on your air pump and put the other end outside.

Again, if you're not experiencing problems, then there's no reason to change anything. Amirite?

My lights out temps are running 66-68, and my lights on temps under the lights are 10 degrees warmer. A couple feet of distance makes a big difference, so down on top of the res, temps are usually 68. Water temps are lower than that. Now granted, this is in winter when the room around the grow is easy to keep at 68. I don't grow when it's hot outside, because THEN I would need a ton of AC and probably a chiller too. I would like to have a nice cave for growing where the temp was a constand 60 year around.

First off......wtf? and secondly 2 day clones?

yes clones with roots in 2 day been thinking about doing a tutorial. im not saying there is a massive root system but strands enough to go in soil and in a week or 2 transplant into whatever for the rest of its life. i use an aero cloner bucket DIY. and i swear 2 day min 5 days max.

I too use a diy aero cloner with misters . I also use clonex and don't see even bumps in two days, nothing personal but I think you exaggerate the truth a bit.

man im not kidding. i fuckin hate clonex(srry) its not strong enough. but i swear i have had clones in 2 day times under the right conditions many times now. im gonna start a thread tonight might as well. im gonna go get to work in 15 min should have it posted in about an hour an a half. then i wil repost tomorrow and the day after with updates. and see if i can meet my goals under pressure. seems like a big claim but i have done it.
