i do man...
why are you still choking the roots with those white pvc parts? You'll never get pom pom sized root balls with that on there. You have a net pot inside them,.. i don't get why you need them. Why not just drop the pot in the lid like everyone else, and let the roots get out laterally. You can slide it off now, it'll be too late when the roots get bigger. Plus your tub isn't light proof, so honestly the roots probably liked going to 12/12, since that's 12 hours more real darkness then you were giving them before.
Good question. Small net pots lack a lip that allows one to insert directly, thus the PVC couplers. Other than that, there is no need for larger net pots, at last look (admittedly a while ago) many lack a substantial lip. Anyway, I doubt one can get pompoms unless they affix something to the bottom of the net pot in the shape of a convex disc (previously discussed). Same issue exists with clones. Perhaps 'the answer' is a taller (deeper) small net pot with a 0.5"+ lip. That's a simple DIY! (tie two small ones together cutting the bottom out of the top one), but will look into slightly larger net pots. Ya got me thinkin. Thanks! But probably just a few trimming of the tap roots will forcce the root mass to become ball-like.

Also, you are onto something with the pod not being light proof. The thin lid is the problem. Simple solution is to cover it with heavy foil. I have another pod (larger, better spacing of holes), but it takes up the whole light, and I am finishing a plant that I am babysitting: ~ 3-5 more days to harvest. Will switch to larger pod then, and cover that lid with heavy foil. Good catch!

The roots I'm seeing now in my bubbler are actually pretty decent. Hairs even. I wonder how you would get hairy roots without building a rather large fog collar? Or are you thinking of getting them after you cut your clone from the main stem?

Diyer: The collar I menioned is just a neoprene disk for holding the cutting. I think I'm going to cut the tap roots every so often to keep them from soaking. I want them to get all their nutrients from the bubbles.

Here's my bubble roots...

I think trimming the tap roots will also force the roots above to spread and develop into balls

I wondered if plants that size could live in a 3" netpot- I believe they can. All the netpot does is hold them from falling down. The roots should hold themselves I would think, but I could be wrong. My chamber uses 2" netpots, and I'll soon see if they can get a few weeks of veg and still work in that size. Atomizer has a good idea of cubing some rockwool chunks to about 1cm2 and lightly packing them in with the seed/clone. Hand water them daily until the roots exit (which is fast with the little resistance) and the rockwool eventually helps lock the roots in later. I think thats about what a bubbler is, but I never have used one myself. I guess the popping bubbles make enough mist for the roots to live off of above. They are not submerged in the water.
To assure max bubbles you need a real good pump and a 4 head manifold + 4 FINE air stones to keep the surface popping (see post 1661). You also need to be cognizant of how far away from the net pot bottom to keep the surface. The more bubbles you have the farther away you can keep it. I just fucked up when I transferred my clones & seedlings into a larger bubble pod. The surface was too far away. Not realizing this, I went out for ~ 4 hours, and when I got home all were severely wilted. Trying to recover them now, but it ain't lookin good after 4 days, but there are some signs of new roots. My biggest concern is the Monster Cropping clones, which may not survive. The plant I took them from is within days of finish, with no good stems to take more clones. I thought about trimming the roots instead of transferring to a bigger pod, but didn't. DOH!

Coincidentally this hit my inbox today. I's a combination bubbler + misting Very well executed. Good root shot photos too http://buymarijuanaseeds.com/community/threads/building-a-misting-aerocloner-veg-machine.138565/

Good, dealing with the light will be another good tweak for you PF... Not sure what your arguement against netpots is, the lip is sufficient to hold the pot up against alot of weight. Also not sure what you mean about needing the addition of the convex plastic, or cutting the taproots. It's plainly obvious neither tree farmer nor Atomizer went to such lengths, and no one could argue with their root structures. The reason you're even getting those taproots in the first place is still the inability to fully control without the accumulator, but I don't think cutting them is the answer here. You have spent alot of time and energy on this, and no doubt have been a part of the aero community for a long time. It's good you're eyes are opening up to an additional depth of detail, and it also seems your plants are reflecting this. I think this year will be your best results yet.

That's Cavadge, with his hp cloner... Nothing new here, but it's nice to see it again. I think with a few more tweaks with what we understand now, it is really a good system. I wish he hadn't disappeared, I liked his building and journaling skills. His "forget the fogger, I'm going hp aero" thread was really the point where my thinking had changed, and I started focusing on what mattered in HPA. Even so, at the time he had some issues with the concepts that could have been improved. If he is still growing, I bet he has it down real nice now.

Thinking Inside the Net Pot: I brain farted on this. Place an inverted cone inside the net pot- size of cone depends on diameter of net pot. Simple, cheap, and elegant solution.

My DIY bubbler rivals his results, but it inspired me back then. I transfer mine long before they get that big. The thread was DOA until someone responded today.

Dude Cavadge's talk on GC is where i learned of a lot of the parts i plunked down cash for, wtf ever happened to that site is beyond me, i don't post there anymore since they seemed to have sold out.

If you're into LED's, i heard some talk of them here earlier, check out 'Knna DIY LED Panel' thread over there, i got supplies direct from knna out of spain (when he was around, seems all the good ones disappear eh?) to build the LED arrays i currently grow a lot under. Knna where'd you go!! To me, another one nothing but pure knowledge ever poured out of.

Yes, I've heard good things about the KNNA led setup before. I really liked Cav's thread... Wonder whatever happened to that Auto44 guy ;)

Hey what the hell good are inside jokes in an HP Aero thread? I'd rather you give me the acc shopping list again! No seriously,.. it'd be tits for the mister systems i want to put throughout my homes ventilation ducts, then leave the fan on and boom, instant swamp cooler. I want an RO system for drinking water anyway, so I'm thinking get a bit bigger one then i need, and use some of what it can clean in the ducts. Should make for an easy hide of a lot of the stuff to do this as well. To buy a swamp cooler just isn't going to have the level of effect i want, evenly throughout my entire house. I want to lower my electric bill this summer, with even more lights burning in the grow room. I just bought another 400 ballast & bulb :hump: that'll add $19/mo to my bill,.. going the wrong way, for now...

On a side note,.. that also has no place in an HP Aero thread, ha,.. fucking UPS dropped a package for me to the wrong house in my complex, someone down the block dropped it off on my step, opened,.. it had an HID lamp cord inside it...
I fucking hate ups...:cuss:
Even though I'm totally legal, now i want to move and only ship to my girls work where she receives the packages, did i mention i fucking hate ups!!

I'm a bit worried that the humidity the misters in your ceiling will bring, will make life quite uncomfortable for you. I have been using my fogger bucket to humidify the bedroom the last week or so since my girlfriend had a cold, and as soon as the air gets over 80 in the daytime, it becomes unbearably hot sticky and uncomfortable- although the rest of the house is not so uncomfortable at that temperature. I am lucky enough to have good luck with UPS- thankfully. I'll tell you when I was about 6 years old one of the first jokes I ever made was after they messed up my mom's delivery- I told her the name was for "UPS! (Like oops!) messed up another delivery" lol...

Thought I would post some pics of my first crosses, plants and roots, 24 hours AFTER cutting the tap back ~ 3". Seems no worse for wear. Plant on left showing some pistils. Plant on right much bigger leaves + root mass.

Just wish I had the guts to clip the roots of those plants/clones that were in the bubbler instead of moving them into a bigger pod that did not have enough water to nourish them; the
Monster Crop clones are still not lookin good.

Not putting the misters on the ceiling anymore, i said put um inside the central air ducts. I saw it done in pics, not sure of the scale, probably more for buildings, still have to research it more, but anything can be scaled back. I have a switch on the thermostat to keep the fan on as is, with occasional bursts of mist in the ducts, i don't see why a homes AC system couldn't double as a small intermittently running swamp cooler.

I've seen, i think there called 'adobe' homes here in the desert, well i saw it on this 'green' channel i was watching once, anyway they showed a home with almost a tall chimney in the middle of it, well in the summers they'd spray mist down it and cool the whole home in the middle of 120F dry desert heat, never had to even turn on the AC. Which is exactly what i live in by the way, the desert. Even with all the water in my grow room i only hit 30% RH, id like to give the ladies in veg an auto mist a few times a day. Out in the home RH is more like 20%. I can see why it wouldn't work for anyone in humid climates though.

Or maybe some sort of swamp cooler hooked up to blow air into where the central air sucks air in from now, its very accessible inside my house,.. gets air sucked through it,.. why not force swamp cooled air into it and through the whole home? If done right i think a lot of growers in dry hot climates could offset a lot of there homes, and grows AC cost with a little humid air.

Do you guys reccomend using super thrive? I'm still reviving a stressed plant so I'm thinking a teaspoon per 5 gallons couldn't hurt?
