Good question. Small net pots lack a lip that allows one to insert directly, thus the PVC couplers. Other than that, there is no need for larger net pots, at last look (admittedly a while ago) many lack a substantial lip. Anyway, I doubt one can get pompoms unless they affix something to the bottom of the net pot in the shape of a convex disc (previously discussed). Same issue exists with clones. Perhaps 'the answer' is a taller (deeper) small net pot with a 0.5"+ lip. That's a simple DIY! (tie two small ones together cutting the bottom out of the top one), but will look into slightly larger net pots. Ya got me thinkin. Thanks! But probably just a few trimming of the tap roots will forcce the root mass to become ball-like.i do man...
why are you still choking the roots with those white pvc parts? You'll never get pom pom sized root balls with that on there. You have a net pot inside them,.. i don't get why you need them. Why not just drop the pot in the lid like everyone else, and let the roots get out laterally. You can slide it off now, it'll be too late when the roots get bigger. Plus your tub isn't light proof, so honestly the roots probably liked going to 12/12, since that's 12 hours more real darkness then you were giving them before.
Also, you are onto something with the pod not being light proof. The thin lid is the problem. Simple solution is to cover it with heavy foil. I have another pod (larger, better spacing of holes), but it takes up the whole light, and I am finishing a plant that I am babysitting: ~ 3-5 more days to harvest. Will switch to larger pod then, and cover that lid with heavy foil. Good catch!
