Religion

I'm an atheist. I don't understand belief in the supernatural. I kinda hate religion, but I think if people didn't have religion as a tool to abuse others and excuse themselves, they'd find another tool to do it, so to each his own.

Religion is just another thing to segregate us...The amount of bad it's done outweighs the good by a lot

...I agree in the sense that it's done bad. I just can't deny the fact that it does good to those who need it. I guess it doesn't matter what the person uses to satiate needs, it's likely more about damage control. (weed?)

People are people. Religion is the inanimate thing. Unless you think ideas are alive.

To get the story of the true "unification" of christianity as a religion, Google Constantine, and the Council of Nycea. That is when the "Bible" as we know it began to be assembled and edited. Constantine saw the incredible following Jesus had, and by modifying his teachings, put that to good use!!

I think that religion is a concept invented by man to control man. It has nothing to do with ones belief in a higher power, Creator, or spirituality. I think that the Gnostics were closer to the real teachings of Jesus than anyone wants us to know.

I think that idea (sic!) is built into Christianity at its foundation, what with "the living word" an'all. cn

It's a human saftey net. ImO.
its training wheels IMO cumbersome awkward things that in reality hold us back from our potential

the universe and whats in it is so much bigger than our understanding that we no longer need to look for a higher power in life. the pure fact of our life being here in such an over whelming big and hostile place that we're in is nothing but a wonder in itself

Webster's Collegiate Dictionary traces the word back to an old Latin word religio meaning "taboo, restraint." A deeper study discovers the word comes from the two words re and ligare. Re is a prefix meaning "return," and ligare means "to bind;" in other words, "return to bondage." Do you still want some of that "old-time religion"?

I don't have a religion.

...yes, to bind, as in to give duty.

...do you have religion? Religion and 'a' religion are 2 separate matters, imo.

...cool, thanks for letting me have that :) :| There are nothing but opinions here, likely equal in number to assholes - everyone has one. Yuk Yuk :)
