Hey, I'm new to growing and actually its my first time. I have designed a very simple situation to grow my 4 seeds in 4 pots. But I have some questions. As you see the desgin in my Fucked up windows paint made picture I wanna use a Metal halide 400Watt over my 4 pots, with an aluminium shell shaped as cone around the metal halide. Is this gonna work? I haven't started yet and I'm in the germinate step.

I think the cone design might concentrate the light too much in one spot, you want a more open hood me thinks for a better even distribution of light.
I would say about 12" or so should be sufficient for a 400W MH

you ask a question in the picture

you can figure out the answer by puting the hand under the light at the same hight with the plants and if is too hot for your hand then the light is to close

Yes, I was thinking the same thing that maybe it will give too much light more than needed with the cone design. I should think of a better shape. Or would it be good to put no aluminium shape around the Metal Halide? Just the lamp itself?

Thanks, its a good way to figure the proper distance I think. Me gusta :D

Yeah prob better to have no reflector than the cone design... You can make a hood out of a large beer if you can fit it over the MH fixing:

I've seen temps on top of foliage at 93 under a 400 and it felt only slightly warm on my hand. Don't use your hand to decide if the heat is killing your plant. Spend 6 or 7 for a thermometer at walmart and suspend it with cord or something so you can raise and lower it, and keep it under the light at the top of the foliage.

I heard that for the first two months the Metal Halide lamps are good and for the rest the HPS lamps with yellow light are preferred.
Is it true? Can I go with only one (Metal Halide or HPS) till the end?

Yep MH for veg , HPS for Flower.. would be better to go with a HPS rather than a MH till the end

Thanks for the answer.More questions :D : Before flowering I should use the light in 18/6 mood and after that 12/12? Is it the best way using a 400watt HPS?

If you had to go with one the whole way it would be hps. Ideally, Halide for veg and switch to hps when you go to 12/12 lighting.
