Superthrive contains completely different things than nutes. It will not replace nutes, and should be used in conjunction with nutes when applicable.

Pix?
Was wondering if I'd ever hear from you again...you went out to run some errands 3 weeks ago.

I'm aware that nothing buy superthrive may not be the best route to go...but that's why I'm calling it an experiment. I can go online and read about how different things will effect the plants in different way, but I want to see it for myself.

It's alittle after 6 now which means that it's night time for my plants. The lights come back on at 10, I'll go and snap some pics then.

Two posts in 2 days? Does this mean you're back to posting reguarly? That'd be awesome...but I'll understand if you've got shit going on.

As of about 30 min ago all 10 of the seeds have broken through the soil and are in various stages of sprouting. I'm going to go and give them all 2 weeks of just water and let them do their own thing, after that THE EXPERIMENT BEGINS!!!! I may or may not start up a new journal for them.

Anyway.............here's some pics! The seedling are obviously the new ones, the smaller one is Princess Consuela, and the big one is Esmerelda. Enjoy.

Apparently Roberta II is more like her namesake than I would like. I woke up about an hour ago and went into the closet to see how they're all doing. Apparently Roberta II flew too high and came crashing back down to earth last night. It wasn't as bad as the first time though. This time she fell over at the soil line, not halfway up her stem, and this time I'm not waiting around and doing nothing because I don't know what happened. The lights have been lowered and she's been burried up to her leavesDory II looks like she's been stretching pretty far too, hopefully I lowered the lights in time to keep her from falling over.

After what happened with Roberta II I've been thinking alot about rearranging the closet. Not sure how though. I'm kind of restriced as to where I can hang lights from. I'm going to go play and see if I can't figure something out.

Anyone have any suggestion as to names of the new girls?
I'm calling yesterday the day that they were all sprouted. The experiment will begin on 4/16

Looks good to me! How are you keeping temps down in your closet? I've got 8 CFLs running and it's killing my plants with heat!

PC and Esmerelda look beautiful, and the seedlings are in for an interesting journey. :) You may want to put some mylar or white paper over that composite board to increase reflectivity. You can get a roll of mylar wrapping paper at Wal-Mart for pretty cheap if you're interested.

With all the lights on and the door to the closet closed it will go and get up into the low 90s, and that's none too good. What I've been doing is just leaving the door to the closet open and keeping a window open. That;s been working pretty good. Summer is going to be interesting though. It's not the best, but there is an air conditioner in my room, hopefull it'll be able to keep the temp in the closet down.

I've been wanting to go and get a roll of mylar, but I can't seem to find it anywhere, not even at the hydro shop in queens I go to. At one point I had aluminum foil up on the wall, but I later found out that was a no-no. I've heard that some people use emergency blankets, I've been thinking about that. But umm, mylar wrapping paper you say? I've never heard of that. I'll have to do some looking into that. Thanks.

I'm alittle concerned about 2 of my babies. They're not growing as fast as the others. One of them is really small, the other is standing up but her leaves haven't opened. I'll post pics when I can, hopefully they just need more time.

Spomething is wrong with me babies. My PH is fine, room temp is fine, CFLs are just a couple is inches away, and I'm using the same soil that I used on my other plants that hasn't given me any problems. Thing is, none of them seem to want to be able to support their own weight, they keep falling over. It's even to the point where I'll bury them up to their leaves, they'll grow alittle more and fall over again. About half of them got to the point where I had to bury them, the rest I just did as a preventitive maintenance. Can someone please tell me what is going on with these plants and how I can fix it? I don't have access to my camera right now, I'll get pix up tonight at around 10pm e.s.t. Thanks!

I also created a new thread for this question:

OK, transplanting is done and all my new toys are in place and here are the pics

The first 3 speak for themselves, then it's Esmerelda, Moon Beam, and Princess Consuela respectively.
I'm glad to see you found the superthrive!

but, are you patting the soil?! The soil doesn't look loose and airy, it looks compacted! That suffocates the roots, and will kill your girls so fast... eep.
Also, it looks like you may be over-watering, so I'm curious about your watering schedule.

Ok, first off, where are those pics? ;)

Also, are you re-using your soil? That is bad juju. Always use fresh sterile soil. That way you know how much nutes are in the soil. If your plans won't stand then you are probably over-watering or over nuting. I can't really say for certain without seeing them tho.

For the new girls I don't have a real schedule. I'll mist the leaves and the top of the soil once maybe twice a day, but that all evaporates off in an hour or so. As far as actual waterings, I stick my finger down a few inches into the soil, if it feels dry I water them.

Superthrive was hard to find but, based on how Esmeralda and Princess Consuela respond, I'm glad I did. Could I give some to the seedlings? Would it help them or are they too young?

I have the pics, I've actually sent them to a couple of friends, but RIU is being retarted and not letting me upload them. I'm gonna try again when I wake up.

It's all fresh soil. I'm just about done with my 2nd bag. Next soil I buy however will be the FoxFarm soil. The store I go to in Queens carries it.

I wish you could come check out my set up. I really wish I could have someone come over who knows what they're doing and tell me what I'm doing right and wrong...I just hope I don't loose to many of the seedlings. A couple look strong, but alot of them look really weak.

you know, I was just thinking. I've read alot of different post, from a lot of different people. There are several different methods to watering that people use. What do you (and by you I mean everyone who reads this) think is the best system for watering and why?

I'd bet you're over-watering. Seedlings are fragile little creatures and the earth doesn't tend to dump a lot of water on their heads. In nature they sprout up after an early spring rain and start looking for water. So the roots have to kind of seek out more water, and that is when the plant begins to grow. It's easy to drown a seedling.

If you are watering twice a day then I'd say you aren't waiting till the soil is dry 2 in down. If the soil is cold, it's wet.

not sure if you have one, but if not imho you should get a small fan in there on your seedlings it will help with your temps, and the breeze will help the seedlings develop strong stems so maybe that will solve the problem with them falling over..... good luck, and yes the emergencey blankets from Walmart work for reflective material, its kind of difficult to work with (tears easy) the shiny wrapping paper from the dollar store works good also

I'll stop spraying them and see what happens. What about the superthrive? Do you think I can give it to them or is it too early?

I'll be going to Walmart in a couple of hours, I'll be on the look out for the emergency blankets and wrapping paper.

yeah, let the soil dry before you water them again. This might take a day or two, depending on how well your soil drains. Just remember, the soil is either cold and wet or warm and dry. ;)

As for superthrive, I know it's good stuff. I've never used it--I have an aeroponic setup, so it's a bit different than soil. But it's great stuff. prolly not for seedlings....

FUCK! I just got back from Walmart. I completely forgot to look for the emergency blankets or mylar wrapping paper.
