I want to build a home made Ebb and Flow.

I have been thinking of converting from DWC to Ebb and Flow.

Why? Beacuse I have became a slave to my plants, I have no life and my girl freind is pissed with it.

If anyone has infomation on these systems let me know. I am very interested in how these two systems compair?

So I think I have nearlly everything I need already, I'm pretty good and making stuff, out other stuff.

What I want to do is:

Make/buy a rez.
Sit two Rubbermade Boxes on top, for the flood table. I will fill these with Grow Rocks and use a pump to fill them. simple.

But for the drain I was wondering if I could just make a couple of holes in the bottom of the boxes. for the water to drip out of.

Would this work, or does it need to be a quick drain?

Thanks for any input.

that would work, but a quick drain would be much better. IMO. less chance of it flooding.

is quick drain better for the plants?

I was thinking of aiming for big ish holes, beacuse I don't want them to blcok up, but the pump has to be faster than the water can drain, else it would never flood.

I gess about 15 mins to empty, or something, Actully come to think about it I know very little about flood and draind, Does any one know of a guide?

their are fittings that go into the holes on the table (where the tube goes and a drain fitting) and you can adjust how high you want the water level to rise. You can buy these fittings at your local hydro store for less than 10 bucks.

hehe, my local hydro store is 200 miles away.

My girl freind just broke up with me, so I gess i'm off the hook.

Hmmm.

I probably still want to try Ebb and Flow. I worked out how to use the search fourms properly and found the answers to lots of my questions.
Thanks everyone.

Go on Youtube and search for I Grow Chronic, Theres a guy, you can't miss him he all green!!! He shows how to build a Do It Yourself Drip and Ebb & Flow system, Plus shows how to grow Hydroponic Bud from seed to harvest. There are like 9 parts very good info I thought anyway.

The faster the drain the more oxygen is pulled down over the roots due to the vacuum that is created, in my opinion one of the plus points for flood and drain- I built my own system too.

I have my pump set up to flood and drain in 2 mins total, but have the system set up so that a 1/2 inch reservoir sits at the bottom of my flood table to keep my girls happy!!

I learned a lot from Mr. Green's "I GROW CHRONIC" vids too.

Do you guys think there's a way to build an ebb and flow compact enough to fit a 3'x3'x6' closet, with no more than 4 plants though?

absolutely.... just get a tray that will fit. they are easy to find. it doesn't even have to really be a growing tray, you can put in on a slite angle to get the water to flow towards the drain.

Hey Erised, I no longer do ebb & flow - I actually went to DWC but it was so much work that I just recently went to Hempy Buckets.

But if you want a great ebb & flo tray (cheap!... only $12.95), go to Lowes - All-Purpose Plastic Super Tub - it's dimenisions are 36X24X8. I used to use 4 of these in a rotation creating a perpetual growing environment.

You can also go to HomeDepot, they have a smaller version (20X24X6) for only $4.95... I made my first system out of one of them. They aren't listed on their website any more, but they can be found in the Concrete and Mortar section of the store.

Cool.
Thanks for all the info.

I'm looking forward to the changing. I have really injoyed DWC and i'm having great results, but the thought of doing anouther grow is off putting. It has got to the stage now, where I have to be home every 12hours, to top off the Rez.

Anyway. Can any one link me to whatever it is you need to make the drain work. Some sort of valve on a timer I amgen? I just want to see one so I can get an idea of how it will work. I will watch that vid tonight.

Right now I am about to spend the an hour tending to my babies.

Gravity makes the drain work. But you have a valve that is like 4inches above the bottome of the tray (a 4in plastic hollow tube). Then when the water gets above that level (4inches or whatever) it starts draining. When your pump turns off it will drain back thru the tube and out the pump into the resevoir. Make sense?

Your pump is what's hooked up to the timer...

Ye, I get that, I jsut couldn't figer out how the drain worked, beacuse obvosly you don't want it draining while your trying to fill the thing up with water.

How much slower is E&F commpared to DWC?
