Rick Santorum making false accusations about the Netherlands, saying they involuntarily euthanize old people. They are pissed.

This guy is going to make a great ambassador :wall:
"If all your viewers would start a country it would be Holland." - great line. Loved it. Santorum is fucking idiot.

:dunce:

Rick Santorum says the darndest things. In order for Puerto Rico to become a state, he wants legislation deeming English as the official language on the island... What is this obsession from the Neo-Cons about everyone speaking English? Is it just another way of saying that Americans are too lazy to learn another language? Every country I have been to, the nationals generally speak multiple languages, except in America. I blame this type of mentality that English is the "language of Prosperity". It just another was of saying, "we think were better than you".
If English isn't the language of prosperity, you tell me which one is.

i have no problems with american's expecting people here to speak english.. i went to spain, and guess what?? everyone spoke spanish there, and signs weren't in two or three languages, spanish only...
i also went to italy, and guess what?? all the signs and shit there were in italian.. that's right..

i do believe that as american's we are pretty closed minded about learning another language.. when ever i go to europe, i feel like such a douche bag as i expect everyone to know english, mean while most of them speak two or three languages ..

i think it has more to do with the geography of europe and the us though than anything.. in europe, driving a few hundred miles puts one in a different country, and therefore a different language is spoken.. it would be like american's driving from say california to nevada and having to speak a different language once in nevada..
i'd love to learn a second language, if only to not feel like a typical american, but i don't have any problems with people expecting you to speak english in the us.. no problem at all.. and don't get me started about fucking signs in a couple of different languages in the us, that shit really rubs me the wrong way..

Which language is spoken by more successful people?

Language is a barrier that is keeping the entire world apart..
That may have been true 50 years ago but times are changing. Like they always do. At one time Arabic was the most prosperous language as was Chinese. Spanish and Portugese were at one time the languages of prosperity. Hindi was one of the most prosperous languages in history with wealth beyond our imagining. Latin held its own for quite a while. Greek. Yep. They were prosperous for quite a while. History is long and full of cultures and languages that rose and fell. English is a bastardized language that hasn't even been around that long. There are cultures that reigned far longer than most languages have existed including English. Claiming that English is the only language of prosperity is, frankly, short sighted and ignorant.

Act as if... Act as if you are successful. Do you plan on doing that by speaking Arabic? Seriously?

I plan on being successful by realizing that all people are equal and language isn't a barrier but a bridge. I live in a tri-cultural area with a tri-cultural family. Prosperity is achieved through cooperation and respect for others, in my experience.

Yeah, yeah, Kumbayah, I get it.

I don't see how having different languages is a "bridge" as you put it. I'm not anti-every other language but English. I speak Spanish and some German as well. We are all of the same species and elevation I believe requires that we all have a unified language. That being said, fuck the government and Rick Santorums efforts to do so. :)
