I have a 600watt hps for flowering, but I dont want to use so much power as the plants are small. Ive seen a 150w ballast and 150w son-t bulb for £40. What you think?

250 or 400 watt mh....or get a new 600 adjustable ballast that can do both mh and hps. you can do 50/75/100 power so you can adjust wattage.

Like warlock said the t5s are great for veg they use little power and give off little heat so you can get them within an inch and also they have good coverage. I use a 2x2 8 bulb t 5 set up and a 50 gallon tote for starting out that has 6 to 8 cfls in it i get them a ft tall in that then move them to the t5s to get another few weeks then a 1800 to 2200 wat flowering room works great i have 19 plants in the flowering room and all start out in these little tiny spots

Ye, I've had a look at the T5's, They only have 24w tubes in tho (one within budget) and they have 4 tubes, I didnt think this would be enough? Any thoughts?

I throw my seedlings under my 600 (air cooled) as soon as they pop and I hang the light about 18" over the tops. The only problem I have ever had was my plants got too big.

Do the T5's still get the Good results I'm looking for? Or should I only use the T5 for a short period then stick them under the 600w hps? or do I keep them on the t5 till ready for flower?

They do give good results at 2 feet or less, any foilage too far from them wont always be super happy....

I veg under 1000 watts lights 4 feet above... 1 light will cover 4x4 to 5x5 easy and the seedlings love the heat.

Make it easy get a 6500k MH bulb. Just keep it further off the seedlings until they get bigger. You shouldn't notice a big diff in electric
