I think it ALL depends on the type of disaster. If I can forage for shellfish and pop a deer now and then fine but if I can't drink pond water and it's a contamination type issue then I'm screwed. I don't think I'm gonna become a prepper but I could be better prepared. Rice, Beans, Pasta and water are straight forward but where would you get protein in bulk. Oh Christ were all screwed!!

Any athletic supplement store. Whey protein in 5 lb jugs , along with egg albumin protein and soy protein. Piece of advice , forget the MREs , the various meal replacement Bars are much more calorie and space efficient. They also have less telltale trash to dispose of and are very handy in a stealth situation where you have to move fast and maintain light and fire discipline , keep in mind how far off a fire can show.
And " living off the land " is a complete fantasy for most folks , they haven't the skills to even come close to doing so.
