I never said that they dont make any CO, i just said that they dont make enough to be lethal/kill your plants. the 80+% reduction has made carbon monoxide posining from cars a thing of the past (sure a freak accident will happen once in a while but that doesnt really count).

where in my quote do i say that modern cars make NO CO? id DO say i that they make co2. but I NEVER say that they dont make ANY CO

yes CO is a lethal compound,( which cars make a small amount) but most Co deaths are from CO gas leaks in teh home. they are very rarely attributed to automobiles that are functioning properly. if you follow rules, like dont ride in campers while your car is driving(common sense) you wont die from CO


i do however conceed that it is POSSIBLE to die from CO from ur car. but you seriously have to be trying to kill urself/ be negligent.

#of CO deaths per year (many of which come from leaks in appliances)=500
# of people struck by lightning per year=473

basically you are more likely to be hit by lighting than die from CO emissions from your car

and No i do not think that leaving ur car on for CO2 is a smart idea. it is A)not cost effective B)wont noticeably help your plants

DO NOT USE carbonated water! . your asking for death to the plants if you do . if anything use store bought hydrogen peroxide or 35% h2o2 .

We use H2O2 in aquatics with stressed fish and corals or when we need to boost O2 levels really fast. We use carbonated water when we need to anesthetize or euthanize a fish.

strange. I haven't tried suicide recently, but I thought it was the carbon monoxide that killed you, not so much the carbon dioxide.

CO2 will kill you just as dead, too. You just won't get a headache to start. It's actually, in my opinion, more nefarious than CO.

Well yeah C02 kills more people aka. suffocation. but in think we were debating if cars are dangerous because of CO. in all honesty idk why we're debating it, its totally just stolen the thread, but W/e debating is always fun

I thought I'd try and throw the debate off and point out how some of these chemicals are used in other life support systems. I wasn't trying to say which one kills more people, just addressing applications.

Cichlids! My tanks are somewhat unpopulated right now, as I recently moved and a few didn't take the move so well. I have a blind albino oscar that's about 10 inches in a 55 gal tank and I have an albino peacock cichlid that's newly lonely in a 35 gal tank.

I'm thinking of putting the oscar in the 35 gal tank, since he's blind and is difficult to feed. (He's a really hardy fucker and I feel bad for him, otherwise I'd euthanise him.) Then I'll put the albino peacock + some new friends into the 55 gal tank.

Interesting, a mix of New and Old World cichlids. My favorites are still the Africans. They are, without a doubt, the hardiest fish I've ever seen (and I've seen a few). I think it's very cool that you're caring so well for the Oscar.

For the record I love Cichlids.
My Jack Dempsey known to his freinds as Smudge is sorely missed.
I shouldn't have ran that hose from my car muffler into the aquarium to boost CO2.

Getting back to CO2.

I go to the supermarket and get 1.25litre bottles of SODA WATER not TONIC WATER, i find it's better to get the smaller bottles than the larger ones cause you lose to many bubbles otherwise and that is what you want.
Put the soda water in a spray bottle and spray your plants before the sun comes up but allowing enough time to dry so you don't burn the leaves.
Seriously it's like red cordial to your plants and your leaves will stand vertical towards the sun like they are waving saying thankyou.
Also you can use it everyday, there is not enough co2 in a bottle to harm them, just do them good.

As I asked previously, how can you demonstrate that the CO2 that's in solution does not come out of solution so quickly as to have any beneficial effect? Without metering you don't really know, do you? It seems to me that the moment it's brought out of solution (via spraying through a mister, for instance) that precious CO2 will diffuse into the atmosphere to negligible levels. I'm just saying that it doesn't make sense to me that you would achieve anything more than a very slight rise in CO2 levels, and who knows, breathing on your plants could ultimately have the same effect.

I brought up the fish stuff because often disciplines can cross; for example, H202 being used to boost O2 saturation levels in H2O, and CO2 being used to boost aquatic plant growth.
