Starting today in NE

Im starting from seeds, got them from another local grower/dealer, said he was 90% sure it's northern lights, but definitely an Indica, just had a few of the seeds crack today, germination took longer than in the past, but I'm guessing it's cuz the seeds were bigger than my other grows, so I'll post pics if you guys want as soon as they're worth showing off :p

I also live in New England, and will be planting for the first time this year. It has been extremely warm, and I was kind of wondering about the same thing as you, but I think that I am going to wait till a couple weeks into April at the earliest to make sure that its not going to throw a final freeze at us. Does it tend to be fine just putting the seeds in the soil, or is there a huge advantage to getting the seeds to at least produce a root before planting?
I started the seedlings in compost planters. We got the plant established an inch or two high. Then just planted the planter into the plots/pots.

Plants went outside end of April and it worked out nicely.

it will flower and re veg this time of year
Or self-pollinate, happened to me last year indoors using a natural light cycle. Not sure why people want to plant in-grounds so soon. The risk of discovery, animals, and insects are highest in the spring, plus they'll be vegging for 5 months. I would only consider it for a legal med grow on my own property...where one can get away with 20 foot trees.
