My very first grow

1 x 48"L x 48"W x 78"H Grow Tent
1 x 600W HPS in 6" Cool tube
1 x 216W High Output 4 Lamp T5 (2x 2700k) + (2x 6500k) @54W/ea
Advanced Nutrition Nutes (veg, flower, bloom) + Fans + Filters, etc., etc.,

I have created a DYI Hydroponic system with a potential total of 9 buckets. Each bucket is 12inch in diameter with the 12-in diameter controller bucket located outside of the tent (as an option). Everything can be easily piped for an interval top drip system.

I have searched and searched but cannot get a definitive idea of how many plants I should ideally fit in this tent to get the maximum possible yield.

I am growing a Sativa dominant Purple Kush strain from femenized seeds.

This is my very first grow and I am looking for the best possible yield. I was thinking of SCROG but unsure at this point.

Experienced Growers.. Please help me !

total Veg time?
total Flower time?
recommend Plant height?

I would start with 5 plants in an "X" formation or maybe 6. Veg them till they are 24" tall on average and then flower them. You have a 7.5' tall tent so you can get your plants to around 5 - 5.5'. Try topping them twice during veg and also light LST training on a few of the branches to get a bushier plant. After the first harvest you'll see if you can fit more. Flower time will depend on your strain. Not familiar with that one.

I think it really depends on how you want to grow. You can do things like SOG or SCROG which use more and less plants, respectively. First decide how you want to grow, then that will help you plan out the amount and spacing of your plants.

Well i have a 39 x 39 x 79 closet and i have 20 plants in there under a single 600.. All are flowering nicely so it realy depends on how you want to do it.. I flower them in 1 gallon grow bags or 3 gallon grow bags..

It depends how big you want the plants to get or how you want do grow them. As an idea, I have the exact size tent also with a 600 watt HPS. I currently have 9 plants in it in 5 gal buckets. I top most, but try not to let them get too bushy as the length and width are limited, but height is basically unlimited. The purple kush is a good strain to grow high because it isnt very bushy (at leas the PK that ive grown/seen grown). So even if you veg a while, i dont think youll have a problem fitting the 9 bucket max that you said you have.

This is your very first attempt? I would keep it simple, pay a great deal of attention, watch the details and learn. You are going to make mistakes, most of us did. 2-4 plants.

I still think he can do more to be honest.. I would go at least 6 or 8.. Then after that he can see if he wants more or less.

I have six G13 Haze (a mostly Sativa strain) in a 48X48X72, with a 1000W HPS, and despite aggressive topping, supercropping and LST'ing, they've filled the grow space so completely that the walls of the tent are bulging out. Kind of a "Cube Of Green" lol. So, choose your strain with available growing space in mind. For aggressive Sativa's and no special training, I think 4 plants is good. But you could go up to a dozen, depending on strain and growing method. Do some reading, then jump in! The best way to learn is by doing. G/L!:peace:
