My New (first) Grow Room and First Grow

Here's a few pics of my first grow room and first grow.

The grow room (a spare closet) is 3'8" x 3'8" x 8'.





The reflector is a Sunlight Luxor (vertical bulb) reflector with 8" flanges. It houses a Hortilux 400-watt MH bulb powered by a Lumatek 600-watt (dimmable) ballast, hanging from the ceiling. The exhaust fan is an Elicent inline 636 CFM fan. It cools the reflector and vents the room. No filter is yet in use because no odor is yet present. I will switch to a 600-watt Hortilux HPS bulb for flowering.

There are three passive intake vents at the bottom of the room covered by black panty hose.

The four plants are feminized plants (from seed) from Nirvana. Three are Northern Lights, and one in an AK-48; although I've lost track of which is which; they all kind of look alike now. They are in their third week of veg.

I'm growing in a mix of 85% Fox Farm Ocean Forest and 15% perlite. I'm using the full range of Fox Farm nutrients, by the Fox Farm recommended feeding schedule.

Wish me luck. Temps are under control and growth is good.

Looks like you got the set up! Your plants will not smell until you go into flower about the 3rd week, it just depends on your grow.
Does your exhaust go to the attic, if so you don't need to worry about the smell, it will dissipate up there.

Yep, exhaust goes into the attic. Hopefully no filter will be needed.

Looks very nice and clean. I have been using FF soil and nuts with great results. The only thing I would consider for your next grow is to put holes (and I mean lots of them) in the side of your buckets. This will help with oxygen intake and help a ton with drainage. Be sure the bottom of the bucket dries a bit between watering, This will help to ensure that you do not get root rot.

That's the best way to put it. This is a very clean and professional grow. A lot of sticky sensimilla awaiting to be grown.

I have a lot of holes in the bottom edge (rim), and the very bottom. I will add a few on the sides tomorrow.

Are you keeping them in those buckets? Those are 5 gals right? How much longer are you keeping them in veg?

If I had the room to work with, I probably would have a room just like yours, I can only use a small section of my closet (have to use cfls).

Yes, I plan to keep them in the 5-gallon buckets until harvest. I guess I will keep them in veg until they are 12-14 inches tall, or when they show sexual maturity (whichever comes first).

Very nice setup Wiley! Clean and professional looking. My buddy uses ocean floor w/ perlite and the fox farms full nute line with great results. He drilled some extra holes in the side for drainage and also propped the pots on some of the light grids that are used for drop ceiling fluros. This worked well and he gets great drainage and airflow under the pots too. Only suggestion I might have for your setup is to lower your light some, maybe 12-18 in from the canopy. You probably know this already but looking at the pics your light appears to have plenty of ventilation to push the limit as to how close you can get it. Here's a little update. I just took this pic today. My plants have grown some since I posted the last pic. You'll also notice that I've taken some advice from previous replies:

1. I drilled lots of holes in the sides of the buckets.

2. I bought plant stands on which to set the buckets, in order to promote air circulation to roots via the holes in the bottom of the buckets.

I'm in the process of connecting semi-rigid ducting to my hood and fan, so that I can easily adjust it to lower my light.

It doesn't look like I'm going to be able to flower all four plants in that 3'8" x 3'8" x 8' room, does it?

They are looking very nice. I have 18 plants crammed into 16 sq. ft. so you should be in like flynn!

Here's an update. The pics show 3 Northern Lights plants, and one AK-48 (front left). They are all showing female pre-flowers!!! The AK-48 likes to get fresh nutients every 2 days...the Northern Lights are OK with fresh nutrients only twice per week.

I am starting 12/12 flowering tomorrow under 600-watt HPS. Wish me luck...
