SF Chronical reports-

OAKLAND, Calif. — Federal agents on Monday raided a San Francisco Bay area medical marijuana training school at the heart of California's pot legalization movement.
The doors to Oaksterdam University in downtown Oakland were cordoned off by yellow tape and blocked by U.S. marshals. Agents from the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration carted trash bags of unknown materials out of the school to a waiting van.
Arlette Lee, an IRS spokeswoman, told reporters that agents were serving a federal search warrant but said she could not otherwise comment on the purpose of the raid.
"What we are doing here today is under seal," Lee said.
About a dozen protesters upset over the raid gathered out front of the multistory building adorned with a large mural that makes the school one of the neighborhood's most visible landmarks. Some of them smoked marijuana openly.
The demonstrators held signs demanding an end to federal crackdowns on medical marijuana.
Ryan Hooper, 26, of Oakland, wearing an Oaksterdam hat and sweatshirt, said he had finished taking courses at the school in February.
"This is not in the best interest of the city," Hooper said. "If they close the dispensaries, all of this stuff is going to go back underground."
Oaksterdam University was founded by Richard Lee, the main backer of the California ballot measure defeated in 2010 that would have legalized marijuana in the state for recreational use. The neighborhood has also been home to several medical marijuana dispensaries, including one founded by Lee.Lee did not immediately return a message seeking comment.

The city of Oakland has long allowed four medical marijuana dispensaries to legally operate under city ordinances and recently awarded permits that would allow four more to open.
At the same time, federal prosecutors across California have been working for months to shut down dispensaries by threatening to seize landlords' property if they did not evict marijuana retailers.

Whats the point in getting rid of a legitimate way for patients to learn the laws and how to grow their own?
This is completely in the opposite of any intention in the laws.

It is not about taking the pot or growing the pot. They are after tax records, the IRS did not pick the winning Lotto #s this last wk so they are stressed out looking for some extra bucks.

The strange thing about this is that Oaksterdam isn't even a dispensary. They didn't raid Oaksterdam's dispensary (blue sky) as far as I know. WTF is this about?

My wild guess - Oaksterdam has been laundering cash from blue sky and putting into Oaksterdam. Richard Lee can make a profit at the university, but not the dispensary.

They raided four properties of Richard Lee, including Blue Sky Cafe. It was on ustream. Local news showed DEA carrying out plants from Blue Sky (probably clones).

So much for the medical proposition making people and access to cannabis safer. I don't see the "medical scence" getting any better. Deal can only go downwards. Never been a fan of the "medical clause"...as it leaves out everyone else, and also subsequently makes them criminals. Always believed that the medical clause is a faulty step towards legalization. Granted it has provided a much need change in the perspective of this plant, but in all reality the medical scene is only providing clout to the real dilemma.

We have a right to utilize this plant as both human beings and a being within a free society. Moreso, the Constitution is supposed to protect the sacredness of my inner being. "From the flesh inwards is my jurisdiction" and never should it ever be the Governments jurisdiction, but that is literally what we have in modern day society with its prohibition against a naturally occurring plant that has been on this planet way longer than our own species. How much sensible logic can it make to prohibit and outlaw a species of plant that is more native to this planet than we are? Plain and simple, the medical clause has only caused more problems and confusion to what SHOULD BE.

Pretty sure this is more than just mmj. Oaksterdam, the biggest dispensary in the world is less than 5 minutes from these other dispensaries and they were untouched. The owner of Oaksterdam, Richard Lee, has constantly been on the corporate side of mmj and it's not surprising that the IRS is now after him.

I'm thinking it has something to do with taxes. I don't see why the IRS would be there otherwise. Maybe laundering. If we're going down the conspiracy road, it could be to prevent Lee to try to legalize pot again.

Now I'm thinking this is all just retribution for attempting to pass prop 19.

I like the conspiracy theory. After Oakland city council and the man behind the curtain, Dick Lee, tried the warehouse bullshit in 2010 it probably pissed the feds off. It didn't take long for them to shit on the Ogden memo after that went down and then you get the local DEA sending the letters to dispensaries last year...and now this.

On the warehouse note, remember iGrow/weGrow? The "walmart of hydroponics"? After the feds shut they city's mouth on the warehouse ops, weGrow up and disappeared out of oakland...last week weGrow announced they were opening a location in Washington DC. A day later, DC announces they're allowing 6 commercial grows in the city....

That warehouse bs was the single stupidest thing Lee ever did in his life. It killed support for prop 215 and telegraphed his plans to the feds. Greed can make people do stupid things.

That's interesting... really interesting. I'm pretty sure that will get shut down quick.

This is about sbhutiing Richard Lee up and taking away any money that he has been saving to try and pass another prop 19 in the next election. Dirty dirty politics. The feds are smart they go after the money because without money, support for legalization will not go anywhere. That's some shady shit about wegrow.

Yep. That sounds like exactly what is happening. Lee can't get his organization out to support legalization if he is busy trying to stay out of jail.
