When do you really start counting weeks for flowering before or after they show sex?

I'm not any kind of sub fanboy or anything. He just happens to be a very accessable breeder. I'm sure his word on flowering time does represent TGA as a whole.

I'll say this, his Dairy Queen says it is a 55-60 day flower, with 3 females it was about that, though I would say 60-65 is more accurate, the Cheese pheno I pull at day 58, the Sativa dome went like 63, but as everyone knows flower times are estimates!!!

If what you say is true and some breeders do start from the first show of flowers, that's fucking retarded! I need to plan my crops based on photo periods. When you grow from seed I understand that the quoted times for breeders are somewhat less important in planning, due to variation in phenotypes, ect.. However, when you are working with clones and want to plan your grows, you pretty much have to count from 12/12. For example, lets say that I have two clone strains that both are ripe 50 days after showing their first flower, but one strain takes 5 days to show flowers after the 12/12 switch, but the other one takes 14 days. Am I supposed to separately remember how long each strain takes to show flowers, and plan my grows that way? No, of course not. In the case mentioned, one strain is a 55 day strain, and the other is a 64 day strain. That way I can plan on when I need to have new plants ready to move into the flower tent from the veg tent. If I didn't count the time before it showed the first flower, I would have no way to plan very well.

. people are fucking idiots. flower time means time in flowering stage. The day you give them 12 or better dark hours that is considered the flowering stage. ask Jorge Cervantes or Ed Rosenthal. just sayin

I Start counting from the switch to short days because that is when the Pr\Pfr balance changes and the "mystery" flowering hormone balance occurs.
If the plants are sexually immature (no preflowers) at the time of switch I assume it will take a week or so longer than usual.

I can't see how anyone could do it else wise since its very subjective to determine when flowers are first present. ie when do preflowers become real flowers ?

Otherwise we would be growing 10-11 week indicas and 13 week sativas, and counting "budding time" when there aren't even the beginning of buds doesn't make sense.

Really I hate to respond but ....I'm sure the OP will be asking if the plants are ready inn another 8 weeks if not sooner and the fact that people like to keep track of how long their plant has been flowering just as a reference point, then you could also say that you harvest when the trichs are cloudy and the pistils turn red and receded which is a sign that yes the calyxs are swollen.it's true there is allot to be said about proper harvest periods and ripeness but I'm fairly confident that the op just wanted to see when people start counting from as a reference point.....asst 30 days you know you have a ways to go at 59 days you know you're getting close and to start looking for signs. I don't mean to be a Dick but after seeing so many people that don't answer a question but feel the urge to Post anyway it gets to ya and I'm sorry it's nothing against you, you just happens to be the straw that broke the camels toe

If you assume flowering period for european breeders' seeds starts when you switch the clock you'll be disappointed a couple of months later.

I still think it's a non-issue. Those weeks breeders provide are extremely biased (who has the shortest flowering haze...) anyway, so you can't expect an estimate with a 1 week accuracy regardless with seeds. That's why auto-flowering strains can exist.

I simply count both, 12/12 and real flowering. The difference with what the breeder says is usually somewhere in between depending on the strain, the pheno, and how I handled the plant.

In a case you'd really need to know you'd probably want to select a mother and get familiar with her clones sort of speak.
