Alot of people in my ear telling me to change set up. You guys think I should?

Here's my current set up. 6 moms servicing a 5x5 tent. In the 5x5 I have a ebb flow table. I'm doing a SOG perpetual under a 1000w. I veg my clones after root for 1 week. I basically start 16 plants every 2 weeks.

I have extra room and am looking to expand and am worried about plant count here in CA but I'm also worried about yield. I'm thinking of a 4x8 tent with bubble buckets, 2 1000 watters in there. 1 plant per sq foot with a 1 month veg. A perpetual grow with 8 plants every 2 weeks going in. I'm quite concerned that my 2 weeks yield will drop with this set up.

I'm trying to get your guys opinions. Basically related to yeild, and I know there will be variables so maybe we can talk in general with the above specs. 16 plants every 2 weeks, SOG, trimmed after 10 days for single cola with clones getting 1 weeks veg, vs 8 plants with a full month veg. My friends all have opinoins but they're not growers, so I'm reaching out here for you guys help, thank you.

It's been my experience that with 4weeks of veg your gonna need more then 1foot per plant. I go 6 weeks and need 3-4 each. And it gets crowded.

I agree with Warlock. 1 month veg and you'll need more space then that per plant. Also, if you get a 4x8 tent then get 600w lights. Maybe that Dual 600w light from Lumatek. You can pick one up for less than $300. 600's will still give you the perfect footprint for that tent with less heat issues and electrical load.

I have a twin 600. It runs 220 so if you don't have it you will need 2 ballests. And mine is for sale. 350 + shipping with cool tubes.

If 1 plant per sq foot will not be enough space I have two obvious choices. Less veg time and one plant per sq ft. OR 1 mo veg with less plant count. You guys have any advice from a yield point of view for me? If I veg for 1 mo what is the general rule of thumb for plant count per sq ft? 1per 1.5, 1 per 2 sq ft?

I like more veg less plants. But with 4 weeks veg I'd say you would be good setting them up at 14-16 inch center to center.

I think do what works for YOU, and change only if YOU see a need too. Too many blind sheep following better yields this, more potency that.. its 95% bullshit anyway. Stay in the 1% and do what works for you.

I agree with Warlock.

I was just looking at my flower room this morning and calculating veg times and space, and I do 3-4 weeks strain depending and they need about 4ft sq each plant for adequate room, if you like crammed flower rooms then 3 feet might suffice but I want my babies to be comfortable and get as much as they can from the room. I go for quality over quantity as I am not one of these kids trying to make it big with his "tweed" to the masses, just looking to optimize my plants.

If you are pushing plants to flower in a SOG and are familiar with the setup, duration, and nutes then I would stick with that. SOG is always going to be the best yielding style in a horizontal grow.

I recently stopped flowering in my 4x8 tent(2-600watt hps) because it was too crowded. I hated not being able to get in there and work. With a 4-6 week veg., 4 was ok under each 600 but 5 was overboard. Rather then go down to 3 per light, I just built a flower room.

If I didn't get so much satisfaction from growing bigger plants, the tent would have been amazing with 2-600s. It was super easy to control the enviroment.

sounds like you have a pretty good setup as is, cant really tell you if you could expect more or less though. i have a 4x8 tent with x2 1k's for flower. im using a cap ebb & gro with 2 gal sites flowering 12 in the tent on a perpetual 4 week cycle. im safely assuming 1-1.5 lbs every 4 weeks from this system. im vegging for about 4 weeks as well. im going to have to assume that you are running your tray with about 64 plants at a time harvesting 16 every 2 weeks correct? if so im wondering what your current yield is? 4-8 oz's every 2 weeks i assume. it would be hard for me to do a 2 week cycle with my setup so i would say if you really cant stray away from 2 week harvests i would stick with your current system.

well, good question. Right now, with 45 day powerkush I'm yielding about 7 ounces per plant. And actually because of the strain i see that yield every 10 days not every 2 weeks. I lollipop the plants 10 days in, and in truth I really only veg for like 4-5days. It is a 50% indica 50% sativa strain that is not bushy at all.

If I switched to this other set up I'd probably switch to raskal OG and Berryjuana which are 8-9 week flowers, but a little more bushy for sure

That is one hell of a SOG he's got going there. 7 ounces a plant! That's like 9g per watt.

lol i figured man, thats a pretty good yield and if you are not completely after yield i would stick with it. i think changing it to some larger plants could potentially increase your yield but thats another op that you will have to dial in to get your yields up, its your call.

It's not all about yield but of course more is nice. I just have more room and I'm having fun. I would like to expand and try a different set up if it makes sense and I can increase yield. I am very tempted to just keep on trucking with the 4plants per sq ft in a SOG but I just don't want all those plants. I would need literally 12 moms possibly, have 80 clones in veg and root at any one point in tim not to mention all the plants in the tent. Just too scary of a plant count.

If you could get over the security issues I'd say stick with sog and expand. I run 2 4x6 trays below 4000w cooltubes. 4 plants per square foot. 30g a plant average, on another op with roughly the same area under 2400 was yielding 22g a plant average. I have a 3x3 flood and drain system with 16 mothers. Putting out 96 clones per month. I liked the perpetual harvest but monthly was just best for me. Plus in 4 weeks mothers recover very well as aposed to 2 weeks. I would use ur current flood and drain for ur moms. Make ur own 4x8 tent outa panda film. Make a big roll up door the full length of it. Inside 2 4x4 flood and drains. Take 46 cuts from moms a month. 2 1000s above the trays. Once dialed in u could expect to be pulling about a oz per plant. Rather than trying to find the new best thing. Stick to what u know works and just simplify, upgrade, and expand your grow so it works for you. Growing is hard work. Do everything you can to make it easier cos stress isn't just bad for your plants !

i hear ya bro, i personally would never go above 99 plants at a time and in doing sog that can only give you so much. its not just me but i would like to save all my friends and family the heartache of visiting me in fed lockup

Ya that sounds like a lot of risk having to grow so many plants. Especially if your a legal patient.

For 4 weeks of veg though your going to need a bigger space. For example here is one of my plants that was vegged for 4 weeks then 2 weeks of stretch.



I'd say do what works best for you. Your the one that knows what works best for you !! (just keep in mind how big a 4 week vegged plant can get.)
