Hey so im about to grow my own indoor and im new to inner growing, i used to grow outdoor but now i wanna try in...
so i will build my own grow box with wood....but i have a few questions.

- I am about to use a 400w MH lamp for the veg, and 400w HPS for flowering is that correct? i dont want a complicated grow, just a simple organic one...
- I dont really know what is the others thing needed in a growbox... like some ventilation, fans, filtrer and these things, can someone tell me what i need? Just the basic things needed to make a healthy and secure grow.
- What are the best cheap soil/nuts avaible?

Like i said im NEW in indoor growing so i hope i get some feedback :D

Is the light a cool tube setup? if so you just need a duct fan (cheap). or just pul air thru a filter, thru the tube and out. You will need a centrifugal fan for that. You will need a smal occillating fan to blow over plants. A small clip on one will work. I put a temp/humidity sensor in the room. Mearns makes a good one and I can monitor 3 areas on one remote base.
How big are u making? I made a wood frame and the sides/bottom/top are all foam panels.

General Organics Go box is a good basic nutes set. Feeding schedule is at their site. Also get some of those yellow sticky traps. Put one in the rooom to catch/monitor pests that may show up. I run a no pest strip too but some folks dislike them.

IMO its a waste to use those 400w's. U should try something like having a fluorescent for vegging(it will be just as powerful as the 400w and a lot less money) and maybe just put both your 400's in a flower room. When you start thinking about how to get the optimum harvest thats where it starts getting expensive.

i think he may just have one light ballast that takes both bulbs.

400w arent useless, mine works just fine.

frame out your box with 2x2's and then just plywood it, you can get 4x8 sheets of OSB plywood at home depot for around 7$ a sheet.

unless odor is a issue no need for a filter, which is exp[ensive and the fans that are ideal for pulling air through one are fairly expensive as well.

your probally going to want a cool tube/aircooled hood and a small inline booster fan and some 6" ducting to regulate temps. then probally a small fan or a couple small PC fans work depending on the size of the grow room.

white paint for the inside is cheap and effective.

Epsoma makes some good organic nutrients that you just add to your soil before planting and should feed for a good while, that along with simple earthworm casting compost tea and molasses should get you through a entire grow. EWT (earworm castings tea) is simple to make.

i found a site online that sells grow bags for a reasonable price.. shipping is around 10 bucks (depending on where you live of course) but you can get about 50 5 gallon grow bags for about 30 bucks (before shipping) you can get 3 gallon ones for a bit cheaper, heres the link ---> http://www.greenhousemegastore.com/product/grow-bags/grow-bags <---- definatly worth a order if you want to get a variety of sized containers for a reasonable cost.

remember with a 400w light 4 plants is about an ideal number, you can also look into the ScROG method to be more efficient in your light distribution. ScROG screens are cheap and effective.

I know there not useless, but there are many more cost effective options.

I have a 600 in a 4x4x4 box and I really wish I would have made it 4 wide 4 deep and about 6 tall. You really run out of space. Thank goodness I have some great people on this site that helped me out with my LST and I'm going to have to do scrog next grow but that seems to yield a shit ton and I'm excited.

Things you don't want to skimp on.

Light's: I would veg with CFLs. It works just as well for A LOT less money. Then switch to the HPS for flower.
Soil: I would go with a FFOF mixed with some perlite and Happyfrog soil. Stay away from feed over time stuff from MG
Seeds: You can't replace good genetics. Attitude and Barneys farm are my faves. I'm very much a hipacrit when it comes to this... I'm currently growing bagseed.

Things you can skimp on (In MY opinion):

Nutes: For veg you just need something High in N and lower in P and K. For flower get something lower in N and Higher and move even in P and K.
Pots: You can use buckets (drill holes in them for drainage)
Flat White Paint. I recommend it in a bucket because if you've never tried to spray paint plywood it's incredibly frustrating. (It obsorbs the paint)
Or the "space blankets" from walmart

Things that you just need:

You neeed to get a couple duct fans one should be pulling out of your box (pref in a top corner) with a passive intake that doesn't let light in...
And one for pushing cold air IN on to your lights (If you are using CFLs don't do this unless you have a cool tube and a big 125w cfl or something)
You need a little asclating desk fan to keep air moving in your grow box (Promotes strong stems and movement of CO2)
If you are using a CFL system and you don't already have the reflector you can buy a turkey pan and poke holes in the side and have a pretty sweet reflector on the cheaps for the CFLs
You said safe so I'm assuming jail is a fear of yours (It sure as fuck is one of mine. I'm way too pretty to do time) get a filter it's 80 bucks but it will WAY help on the smell.

Thanks alot for the help man! i will definitly +rep, and by ''safe'' i meant that nothing would burn and explode ahah, i am legally growing so thats ok. And about the carbon filter, do i need this only when flowering or in veg and flowering?

you have a good ideal on what you what to do but to get a good result it takes a lot of planing
600w hps mixed spectrum bulb as you will need 3-4 weeks veg under it ( you needs to fill most the screen with it)
seeds that take well to topping/lst high yield strain that grows large and bushy
one plant, 80ltr plastic storage box works well and you can build the scrog on top, fix it to the storage box try to make it more 4 ft round and try to have the lowest point in the middle and outside 12" higher like a v shape , this will increase yield
use one of these lazy Susan for under the storage box
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/18-450MM-LAZY-SUSAN-TURNTABLE-ALUMINIUM-BEARINGS-550Lbs-250Kgs-HEAVY-DUTY-/140719802902?pt=UK_HomeGarden_Kitchen_Cookware_GL&hash=item20c38dca16

you can the rotate it at any time it will make so easy
a 600hps footprint covers about 4ft x 3ft
so buy rotating it and having a v shape, you get will get a bigger canopy and yield
have 2 fan in opposite corners and in/out in the over corners, carbon filter high if you can and intake low not directed at any plants
good luck

you dont NEED it at all unless you dont want your room smelling like weed.

but if you want one then all stages can smell it all depends on genetics
