Differences in Manures?

No, ProMix is pretty sterile. Your composts however, will be alive with beneficial microbes and fungi. You can either mix then age for a few weeks to allow the bacterial colony to multiply, or mix and use it right away. I'd water lightly with a carb solution (Molasses) either way you go to give the microbeasties some food to multiply on.

This info is gold jack, I really appreciate it...
I was planning on mixing in the compost and letting it sit. Everything I have read has recommended this, I am trying to think of a good spot to let my soil mixture age before I use it. Does it matter if its in the sun or not? Will it being in the sun have a negative effect on the beasties? I want them good and healthy for when I am ready to plant. Is there anything else you would add to this soil mixture while it's aging?

Mind taking a peek into my Sunlight Question thread in the Outdoor forum when you get a minute?

I second this. Would I have to add bone and blood meal and such in addition to all this? I don't want to add too much of anything and have it be too concentrated or anything. Ya know?

I hear you, I have also read some additives will make your soil smell so nice, especially when its first planted and all exposed, and end up attracting critters who come around and paw up your dirt looking for the source of those smells. So gotta be careful of that I think. Just keep your eyes and ears peeled here till some experts chime in ;) cheers

Most definitely. I'm putting up chicken wire and all that jazz. Fox urine and whatnot and egg shells and soap and hair. I'm mainly concerned with percentages and ratios of the soil mix itself.

Just get a good balanced "PRE MIXED" fert like Espoma Biotone, then add either kelp or bone meal for flowering. All the other additives are just doing the same thing, different sources thats all. You dont have to add blood meal to something that already has sufficient N, or Kelp or Bone meal to something with sufficient P, etc.

I used plant tone last year and it made it seem like a very good soil. Smelled like something that I would want to be in if I were a plant. I think ill be adding the same this year - along with mycorrhizae and azomite and all that stuff. What's usually in your soil mix?
