[h=1]Indebted Spanish village approves cannabis farming[/h]

[h=2]The village of Rasquera in Catalonia could become Europe’s biggest legal cannabis producer after residents approved a local council plan on Tuesday to allow marijuana cultivation in a bid to pay off its debts.[/h] By FRANCE 24 (text)

A small Spanish village approved a council plan Tuesday to reduce its crippling debts – by renting out land for cannabis cultivation.
Villagers of Rasquera, 140 km south of Barcelona, were asked to ratify a measure passed by the village council at the end of February as part of its 'Municipal Anti-Crisis Plan 2012'.
Rasquera, which has just 950 inhabitants, is burdened by debts of around 1.3 million euros and is suffering from chronic unemployment. It is a microcosm of the huge financial problems facing Spain.
With 57 per cent of voters agreeing to the plan, Mayor Bernat Pellisa spoke of a “magnificent result”. Earlier, he had threatened to resign with the entire council if the 'Yes' vote was less than 75 per cent, but he happily brushed that aside after the results came through, saying: "Tomorrow morning we'll make decisions after digesting the results."

CAN YOU IMAGINE THE SIZE OF THE FENCE THEY WOULD NEED TO KEEP HOLD OF IT. LOL

i haven't really looked much into how it would be to live there, but i did really fall in love with barcelona and girona when i went there..
like i said, the people were super nice.. i don't speak word one of spanish, yet got along great.. every time i walked into a store, i was greeted by a big hola (sp?) and was made to feel very welcome..
wasn't crazy about the food though, have to say that the food there was not my taste.. lots of funky ass seafood...

i had thought it was legal to grow in barcelona for personal use only though, which is friggin awesome imo.. :)

realistically it's all but impossible to get a work visa there, spain itself doesnt have visas, they us the EUs visa system, and it is VERY difficult to attain. you basically have to prove that you can do a job better than anyone in the entire EU to get a visa. sorry man, just keeping it real

I bought some land a year ago just 15 or so miles from that village. 6 acres was less than $20,000.

I'm going to live in a yurt, and plant stuff.

Spanish unemployment is up, the Countries economy is going down so guess what we're gonna do?

We're all gonna open up Associations and grow and sell weed. Still a grey area but after what's happened in Tarragona (renting land to grow weed to then be taxed by the Governement).

We have 70+ Associations already and anyone can join with a Passport. Amsterdam is closing its tourist doors next year and they don't have a beach or Mediterranean weather.

So, guys let me know when u want a Tour of the Associations!!!

Love from Barca !!!

ps Here since 2005

I would say that was in the not so distant future. In Feb they downgraded the law to growing 9 plants at home for medical reasons. The CPS (Crown Prosecution Service) aren't interested therefore neither are the Police. Everyone will be queuing up at the Doctors, costing the NHS time in handing out Medicinal purpose passes before they start charging for Medical Cards like the US.

Just wait and see !!!
