Found this video done by greners.com comparing a few stealthgrow, haight solid state and apachetech models in terms of watts and micromoles. My interest in apachetech has returned. Think this very well could be next purchase. Wish I could find some journals using them.

Does anyone on this thread have any experience with using LEDs that generate light in low wattage, less then 20 watts per LED array, @ 725 nm that would run for maybe 10 minutes after lights out to induce a reduction in normal phytochrome switching from the plants usual 2 hours to like 15 minutes? It seems reasonable that if this can be achieved the plant would have over an hour more of flower each day. What I had in mind was taking 4-6 of these LED arrays and spreading them around this day 36 veg DWC tent grow to see the results between yields when specific red band wavelengths are used. Any comments would be appreciated.

High compared to what; HID? Like an LED array they're going to be more expensive then HID setups but you don't have to relamp either and they cover a larger area for 1/2 the wattage.

As to Nugluvr's question; I'm building 4 small panels with 680-725 nm LED lamps to try exactly this. It's called monochromatic photostimulation and the idea is by relaxing the plants membranes with narrow red band frequencies it will decrease the phytochrome switch to something like 15 minutes thereby increasing flowering time. It's definitely worth trying but it remains to be seen what difference it will ultimately make in final yields and quality. So I'm going to side by side test it using the exact same conditions on one tent with the array and one without. We shall see.

Quantum meters are calibrated for sunlight and show energy levels in photosynthetic density or PPFD that fall within the 400-700nm wavelengths. Perfect for measuring plant light levels.

That looks like a specmeters.com meter in the video. I use an Apogee MQ100. Not any real difference and they run around $300.00.

Glad to see someone with a wider understanding of plant electrobiology take this up. I've not seen much on this topic and I'm curious as to why not. Much is known about the lights on - lights off relation between plants and light source but I've not found a lot of research on narrow band far reds influence on accelerating the emerson effect. If it works it would not only save energy by using the low wattage LED arrays but allow for greater weights at finish. I'm giddy with the potential here.

Can you suggest any further reading on this topic and will you post up your results here?

I agree with this guy talking about the leds are you on dope my friend my led is compareable to 3 1000w hps or mh because it has a multispectrum for flower and veg my plants grow three times faster i have this documented the electricity cost is three times as low as and hps or hid or mh or a t-5 im putting out more bud in a much shorter time period with quality that will never be matched by anything else on the market so why dont you do some research on leds to any light and find out how ridiculous you sound step it up to leds and find out cuz your in the past with your ancient setup oh and i was trying to comment about the guy you were talking about saying that his hid is better than an led that guy is fucking retartded

Yeah im very close to ordering an apachetech model, just not sure which model to get, either r/b or r/w but they also have different ratio configs you can choose too...seems to be a great PAR output for such low wattage. The super narrow lenses are interesting too, but probably not a great footprint but an acceptable tradeoff if the lenses penetrate like they should. Just read a report that one of their medical marijuana customers gets over 1g per watt in a 4x12 area with 8 lights and harvests 4 pounds so do the math that's a half pound per 160w! I'm sure that isn't typical results and dude is probably a master grower, but sounds like the potential is there. They also came out with some new led tubes to replace t5s but didn't see them on their website yet.

Do they even have lenses? Or should I say secondary lenses? To me just looks like each led is housed in a little groove if you will. At first I thought they were associated with LG the TV and phone maker but couldn't find any evidence of an actual partnership between the two.

naaa , they are not affiliated with the big time LG just clever marketing i imagine , seems like ya they are housed in a reflective groove or lens of some sort ..... i would be weary with those lights look pretty cheapo shittycaca IMO.

Yeah they don't appeal to me either. I'm toying around with the idea of buying another new light, just not sure which one. I have a couple in mind, and yes, before you can tell me to check out the vipars, they are on my list of top 5 companies to call.
