Yea i just got a HUGE bag of Fox Farm Ocean Forest for $16.99 at my local hydroponics store. Its pretty much ONLY sold at specific places, But if yu Google Fox Farm you can easily find the website and it will let u know a close place that its sold at. Thats wat i did, turned out it was sold not even 15 minutes away from me, But its the only one in 150 miles. lol. you win some yu lose some. But a wise choice in soil.

I use whiney Farms and Perlite (2 to 1 more or less). add about a teaspoon of dolomite lime and extra boxed organic mixed fertilizer (1/8 cup) per gallon of mix. More fertilizer when potting into last stages. Boxed fertilizer contains: bone meal dried poultry waste, cottonseed meal etc. etc. etc. But most importantly it contains mycorrhizal fungi and bacteria to digest the food for my plants and make the soil a nice place to live. if I'm rich at the time I also add (one of the only things I add as much as the directions say) extra soil fungus. My hydro guy had a little bag i bought for about 5$. he wasn't way up on it, But soil microbes ROCK. I definitely see a difference when using it.

Fox Farms is pretty premo stuff I see the label and it adds up a little acidic to me. Check the threads at the beginning of "Organics". Some good soil mixes in there, cheaper than mine and Fox farms. Saving money good.

Two things I do that I don't see mentioned a lot;
Dolomite lime-sparingly
Soil Fungus (I think I'll start a religion)

Both my method and Fox farms (If I was using fox perlite would need to be added) are pretty expensive. I'm going to read up and see what the wise young people of rollitup have to say (stickys) before I invest in my next soil batch.

I'm going to look into the fox farm organic to see if there's a place in my area that I can get it that's close ... Up till now I have been using ProMix organic soil, it has - Canadian Sphagnum Peat moss (cause im Canadian)
- Mycorise Biological Growth enhancer
- Organic sea-based compost, (not sure of the breakdown)
- Perlite
- Limestone

It seems to be working great for me,,I have not had any trouble..

simply the best soil is the soil u make urself. u no wut is in it and exactly how it made. also for the intial investment u can buy the ingredients in bulk bags and have enough to keep u growin for a good long time for only pennies compared to the name brand stuff. if you would like a recipe for an excellent soil that i like to make id be happy to post it here for you

I've been a little "grumpy" lately (They deleted a post I made about an incandescent light a dude was using. An INCANDESENT, nobody said anything for like 16 post I had to go off).

I see it as getting paid 12$ an hour or more to mix soil. Paying over 15$ for three cubic feet of soil? Even my trophy wife and mistress (MK Ultra and L.A. Confidential) can see the custom quality in custom mix.
:peace:

If u are doin this indoor and have alot of soil to mix a kiddie works very well otherwise u can use lage storage totes. After mixing ingredients wet soil and mix it thoughly and let it sit for about a week or 2 then its good to go for planting. Keep in mind with this mix u should use a good organic fertilizer at about 1/2str. or an organic tea. I use BioCanna and budswel in a tea 3rd week of flowering and they really seem to get fat.
Base Soil Mix-
1-1.5 parts perlite(large chunky if poss.)
2 parts peat or coco
1part compost (make sure to a well composted material like mushroom compost)
.5part wormcastings
1 1/2cup of of fine dolomite lime per cubic feet of soil(1 ounce per gallon)
Optionals (good stuff)
epsom salts
greensand
crushed oystershell
aragonite
soil innoculants like myco fungus and soil bacterias

Now just add the corosponding ingredients to the stage of growth ur at to ur base soil mix.
Seedling/Clone soil-
i only add .5 parts of vermiculite to help hold a little extra moisture

Veg soil-
.5-1 c. bloodmeal per gallon
1/8C kelpmeal per gallon

Bloom soil-
.5-1c. sul-po-mag or rock phospate per gallon
.5-1c. bonemeal per gallon

1 cubic foot = 6.4285 US dry gallons

Id recommend a mix of:
50% FoxFarm or Miricle Grow Organic Water Controll Compost (for added water retention)
25% perlite
25% coco coir

This is pretty much what I use but if you arn worried about water retention then you could also sub out 10% perlite for any other compost...

the dude at my hydro store told me that the guy that owns fox farm soil, is running out of land where he takes the dirt from to make oceanforest and happyfrog, lite warrior, hes in humboldt county and hes takin land off his own proprety, guess he bought a lot of land ,and now its gettin eroted and hes neighbors are complaning that hes fuckin up the land scape, so now hes cutting his soil wit more bat shit and worm castings to make up for the lost soil, then he put some soil in a cup and put some water, and these lil larva stated to swim in the cup, i stoped using it, and now i get the best soil from a local nursey, just make sure it is light and has perlite, u can add the nuts your self
