Romulan Grapefruit/ Alien O.G. first T5 grow.

Romulan grapefruit/ Alien O.G. indoor soil. Sunblaze 4ft 4 bulb T5HO. I've done some indoor CFL, and some outdoor but I've never had any experience with the T5. They seem to be the way to go after reading up on some of the forums, so we'll see how everything turns out. The lights have a super low heat output, for what they are which i knew but didn't expect to make such a difference so early on. Temperatures are reading relatively low, the girls are super responsive to the lights, they're not getting burned most importantly and I'm very happy about that. Got the girls hanging out in a nice little club house constructed out of tri-fold science project boards, and mylar. I also took my first whack at cloning when i did do some trimming/ toping & tying so we'll see how my baby making skills are haha.

Metalmatt: I'm vegging three plants right now under 5,000K lamps in my four tube T-5 fixture 4' long. How close are you regularly keeping your lights off the tops of your plants? I have fixtures made by two different manufacturers and they both recommend 6" minimum to a foot maximum distance for maximum plant growth. I usually keep mine about six inches off the tops. I'm growing in a 2' by 4' by 6 1/2' tent with a very reflective interior. So far I've had very good luck on my last two grows and if you don't mind, I'd like to compare notes with you on technique. In a couple of weeks I'll be changing over from a vegging nutes formula to a flowering formula and swapping the lamps for 2,700K's for flowering. What lamps do you have in your fixtures, what nutes are you using and what light timing schedule are you using?
I'm using a progressive light schedule that started at 20/4 and reduces the light by one hour a week. I'm at 16/8, but they'll drop to 15/9 tomorrow. I really think a free exchange of information might do us all a lot of good. What do you think? HSA

What's up bro, I'm running four standard 6500 blues that came with the sunblaze, and I'm at about 10in off I'd say. Got a blue tarp cause i know plants take in blue light for photosynthesis, probably won't make a difference but it makes me feel better haha. Running an 18/6 schedy cause I like to let the girls rest a bit. GH 3 part base mix, and i use grandma's classic molases from the gates with my nutrs, personal soil mixture with fox farms base (strong believer that strong plants start with strong grow mediums.). I don't like getting too stuck on schedules and numbers cause I feel my girls tell me what they need, so to each their own. Check out proffesseurs "LEDs without LEDs: my first T5 grow." should be on the stickies in e cfl section, but if you wanna custome set up your own lamps that's the thread to get your info from! Thanks for the info and we should compare notes definitely, happy gardening buhd.

Nice, I like how you utilized the length of the lights man. How far off the girls do you have your lights if you don't mind me asking?
Thanks, just two inches and from personal experience I get tighter frostier nugs with the 6500k, but that's just me. I use 3 6500kelvin and 1 2900kelvin bulb.

Interesting, what you use for flower then? 3x 2900 and 1x 6500?? Correct me if im wrong but the 2900's are a warm bloom correct?? I've also read that using 29's for flowering works but "you won't be happy with the size of the buds" but I'm not sure how much of that statement I believe..

hmm, 2700k-3000k are acceptable flowering temperatures. 3500k-4000k are most useless, 5000-6500k for veg

Might get tighter node spacing but 6500k for flower will decrease yield tremendously.

For flower on the 4 bulb, I would use a 3:1 ratio of 2700k and 6500k. (3 2700k / 1 6500k)
