I don't find nudity offensive, actually. i find it amusing how offended people are by nudity ... and the euro attitude makes more sense to me. i know we're a country steeped in irony and hypocrisy.

what actually bothers me about the avatars is that it's done so distastefully. total nudity is not offensive, while i would find SI's swimsuit issue tasteless.

I don't find nudity offensive either and I do watch porn myself. But when looking through a thread on growing techniques, I don't like to see a huge pussy or ass in my face. If you know what I mean, lol. Some avatars are just not pleasing to the eye (such as mine to some, I am sure, lol):peace:

I think that my argument may be confusing you, revelation.

I don't think that the forum should censor those who want nudity in their avatars.

I think that the participants in the forum should censor themselves.

I too am an advocate of free speech. I believe the cartoons of Mohammed should be published. That doesn't mean I think the creators should have drawn them. Ya get it?
I agree with that too. But the part about imposing I don't agree with. They aren't imposing those images onto you because you have the right to view or not to view them whether it be by not looking at them or just closing the page. Just because it's distasteful doesn't mean it should be banned I guess is what I'm saying.

You're right about people needing to censor themselves but if we ordain it our right to ban images due to us just not liking them then what would we be able to ban next? That's why I hate it when someone brings this subject up.

this has already been discussed at great length. the mods have already done a pretty good job of cleaning up the porn avatars. i havent seen any really offensive ones in a while. who knows, maybe i am not looking in the right places.

Aah, good ol' 'Fuck you and your opinion, mine's the only one that counts' posts.

My opinion about avatars is that they're a reflection of a person's creativity and originality.

So (and again in my opinion), titties and such type avatars are not creative or original, they're everywhere (unless of course they're your own but I don't think my hairy man-boobs would impress too many people).

Bud pics for avatars aren't original, except in the sense that they may have come from your own plant (mine is a scan of a dried bud from one of my plants - I didn't say that on a public forum though). Bud pics are not very creative either.

Avatars taken from images found elsewhere are not very creative, but can be original in the context of this forum (if no-one else has snarfed the same pic from where you got yours). Well, they can be creative too, but only in the sense of "wow, that's cool, I might use it for my avatar because whoever made the image was really creative".

Self created graphics for avatars are original *and* creative. These are the ones that I always notice. But then, snarfed avatars and those created by the person can be hard to distinguish.

As Tommy Chong might say, "Mellow out people".
Speaking of Tommy Chong, check out these links:

Oh, and one more self promotional link. My blog entry about the origins of 420.

I hope everyone can settle now and forget about arguing. Go have a cone or four, you'll forget soon enough.

well there's one floating around with a set of greasy-ass boobs, and another of a girl in S&Mish leather. I don't know, I just can't help wondering - what are you trying to say about yourself?

"I'm totally fucking heterosexual, dude"
"I have spent forever looking and finally found the ultimate picture of hot chick + weed. Sweet. Right?"

Anybody else have ideas?

I never advocated banning/censoring. Just have some respect for other people. We all must coexist, and throwing your freedom in someone else's face is just not the answer, especially if they never challenged you in the first place.

The original poster was simply pointing out that if the users *did* do a great job of censoring themselves, then this forum would automatically be more inclusive for the people that wouldn't be offended/excluded, and would therefore be a better place.

Ah... my Socata TBM850. I love it, beauty of French design with the luxury and performance of Germans :) 320ktas @ 26,000ft for a single PT-6 engine is a feat of it own, normal operation at 700shp, but can produce 850shp at the flick of a switch in the cockpit, it's like NOS but for a plane! It's actually faster than most small jets and at a fraction of the operating cost!

I don't think that's an accurate characterization. Did you understand the posts?

Um, this is OT. Again - did you read the thread? Sorry to sound like a dick, but this post is worthless and full of SPAM .. WTF?

Hi ceestyle

It's not spam. Spam is unsolicited blatant advertising on Usenet. It is also generally a term to describe Unsolicited Commercial Email (UCE). I posted links to Tommy Chong's MySpace portal. I also posted a link to the origins of '420'.
If that's spam, then so must be every other link in every other post in this entire discussion group.

The whole point of my post was to get people to calm down a little and to subtly suggest that we all have our opinions, and that arguing about each others' solves nothing.

Yes, I did read the entire thread and yes, I do understand the point of the replies and arguments that have ensued. There are quite a few 'fuck you, my opinion is the only one that counts' posts there if you follow back through them. Some are obvious, others are hidden 'between the lines'.

I won't point out each one or make further analysis, because it would be pointless and would be 'flogging a dead horse'. It may also offend you and others that have read and contributed to this thread. I'm a member of this forum because I enjoy reading about, and interacting with like-minded smokers and growers. I fully understand the point of subcool's initial post, and I also understand the point of yours and others' follow ups. I hope you now understand the point of my response, and no, I don't think you sound like a 'dick'.

if this isn't dismissive of the discussion, i don't know what is.

you followed by going into detail about creativity in avatars, bud avatars, personally created avatars .. none of which were the topic of the thread.

you then commenced with unrelated links to which you had a connection. call it what you want, bud.

He seemed pretty on topic for the most part and suggested we mellow out with some things to read to take our minds off the more aggressive posting..

He just stated what he thought about the porn avatars and other ones as well which is what I gathered this topic is about..

He seemed dead on with the "good ol' 'Fuck you and your opinion, mine's the only one that counts" post those pop up every time this topic comes up.

Semantics was, without a doubt, THE most difficult English class I have ever taken. I often ended up in what could have qualified as shouting matches with my prof, who could not seem to allow for different interpretations of the same God damned word. DUDE! Is that NOT what semantics is pretty much all about???

sweet. I am a stone's throw from there.
Don't you mean "a stoned throw from there"?
Just sayin'.

We've got a friend who teaches at UCSC, next time we head out we'll be looking for the good professor. :)

In hindsight, I probably should have left that first line out of the post.

I didn't mean to provoke that sort of reaction from you or anyone else ceestyle.

Cheers all

I really do appreciate the time the poster of this thread took to spell out his opinions on being respectful of us women here. It was a thoughtful post to let us know our participation is welcome and appreciated.... Thank you :D
I'm female too and I second that opinion.

That being said, I have a big time spider phobia and from time to time come across an avatar which is a spider/tarantula pic which always momentarily freaks me out but I wouldn't ask the person to change it because of how I feel.
