Just wanted to start a thread to share hempy photos. Almost finished with my 1st grow ever and I went with hempy buckets and couldn't be more happy.

The ease and results of this method make it a really good option for anyone to try.

So share some pics, stories, whatever!

Here is my hempy girls. The light green leafier one is strawberry double dutch and the beefy one is blackjack. Both are beginning week 8.

Amazing buds. I agree that the hempy buckets are the way to grow. I started in soil but tried the hempy and haven't looked back. Haven't any photos to share of the hempy set up, but I could get some soon as
I'm getting close to next harvest

Thanks bmaster. I think if more people tried hempy they would agree with you! I forgot to add how cheap hempy is to run. A bucket, bag of perlite and your ready to go. Cost me 4 dollars total for a bag of perlite that will last for a while. And I could reuse the perlite too if I wanted.

And hempy is a great alternative for stealth hydro. No noisy bubblers or rez changes. I simply water every other day and it's basically maintenance free.

So if you have done hempy post and let us know how you feel about it. If you havent tried hempy, give it a try you might like it.

Wow, Hempy seems really easy. Are the yields much worse than using a DWC bucket? What are the cons of using Hempy? If anyone can explain it.

I'm not sure yield comparable to DWC but it's probably close. The plants in my pics are grown in 0.67 gallon folgers coffee cans, are total 17 inches tall (6 1/2 inch can, 10 inch plant), and I am estimating around an ounce or more dry.

The only con I can think of is minor. You have to hand water and will have a little run off. I water my buckets in a catch basin for the run off, lets me test the ph easy after I water.

Give it a try, worst you would do is waste around 5 bucks in perlite. Any bucket will work, about 2 inches up from the bottom drill a small hole about 7/16 inch around. I put a piece of nylon screening to cover the hole, you probably dont need to just will have some perlite run out of the hole. This will create a resivior in the bottom of the bucket to hold your water and nutes. Then fill the bucket with perlite, drop in your plant.

Over the first week or so water lightly everday till the roots reach the rez, probably 3-7 days. I flushed enough fresh water through to replace the rez water and once the water stops coming out of the overflow your done. Take a feel of the full bucket and make note of the weight, this will help you judge when to water. Once the roots hit the rez just water till you get about 20% or so runoff, pretty maintenance free really. With my small buckets it works out to me watering everyother day.

Thanks Stoneslacker. The two in the smaller pots are going to the flowering room in a couple days in their smaller pots. I'm experimenting to see how they respond, since the root system in hempys are amazing. I'm hoping I can get away with smaller pots without affecting my results too much. I will let you know how it works out for me.

There is no simpler or easy way to grow than a hempy. Been running buckets for a yr and a 1/2 now.Unless you use osmocote for feeding. Then it becomes almost idiot proof. Add the OC when building the bucket and then just water with properly ph'ed water.
I've also gone to a modified hempy. I like to start my clones in soil and veg in soil also. I take the 3/4 gal soil plant and put in a 3 gal hempy bucket of perlite.

Thanks man. I'm using the GH flora series w/ liquid koolbloom. I have fed these pretty heavy. My schedule has been for the most part feed, skip, feed, skip, feed, skip, water, replacing a feed with water when needed. When I feed I go with about 10-20% runoff. When I water I run about 2x the volume of the bucket through in runoff. I only had one incident of nute burn when I tried to up my nute strength too much.

This was my first grow and I only checked ph. I would like to get a good meter and check ppm and ec for my next grow.

Very impressive! Do you veg in soil for reason? Does this work better for you or have an advantage? The clones I get are grown in soil and when I transplant I just rinse good and drop em in the hempy. Is this what you do, or are you "bogging" the soil right into the hempy?

Your results speak for themselves I would say, those girls are borderline obese! Great job and +rep.

Ya small buckets work great for hempy. My buckets are not even 3/4 gallon, but 1.5-3 gallon is probably ideal. I have 5qt/4.7L buckets for my next grow, cant wait to try them out and keep learning more about this method. It is really this easy to use, and there doesn't seem to be a catch so far.

My buddy grows mostly indica doms, and vegges to about 18", and ends up with trees. He is using 2 1000w hps w/hortilux bulbs and 1 600w mh on a light mover to add the blue. How do you like those airpots? I hear a lot of mixed feelings about them, my buddy used em for one grow and didnt like them, cant rememeber why though.

Anyway your plants look great, I would flip them but it depends how big you want em and how much space you have. Peace.

I drop in the whole plant and soil just like any soil transplant except that I fill the rest of the bucket with perlite. I do cap the last couple of inches around the core with soil.
I veg in soil due to the small veg box I have, there isn't room for 3 gal buckets. And I've tried to upsize hempy buckets before and its a real pain.
I did it the first time because I was lazy, and didn't have time to rinse roots. Took it from cup into small hempy about the size you're using. Not only were there no adverse effects but the plant seemed to be more solid in the pot. And there was less evaporation from the pot.

Hempy tomato from last summer. It out produced any of the other T plants I had in the garden.



The pepper to the left ended up in a bucket soon after this also.
