My seeds wont sprout :/

So our story starts out like any other. A head strong little newb grower wants to grow. He does a bunch of research and decides to grow a single plant. One white widow seed is germinated and planted in a jiffy puck (peat pellet). It's thrown into a home made hydroponic/aeroponic/bubbleponic bucket, containing a simple germination nutrient mix. Two weeks fly by and nothing has surfaced. The little guy was checked and there is a healthy looking taproot going but it doesn't feel like poking through. Here we are on the third week. The nutrient solution was thought to be a factor and was changed to fresh water. Tap root still looks healthy but there is no green. First time with hydroponics. Methinks the poor little guy is being overwatered and is kind of drowning? I uncovered just a tiny bit of the bugger in hopes that the air and light would promote a sprout. Help?

So u germed them in paper towls or something and then transfered it to the jiffy pellet once the root had popped through ? My mate germed his sour kush in paper towls and put it in a jiffy pellet which he kept moist all the time but he just left it on the window seal. I dont think u need to be running water or nutrients through it yet though. He doesnt add anything and the cotyledons always come up out the jiffy pellet and even can grow till the stalk is like 7cm tall (on the windowseal the plants stretch up to the light sometimes but im just giving u an example of how big they can get before u need to even put them in a mineral substrate never mind nutrient solution). But neither he nor me do hydro, so i cant advise u one what or if any nutrients you would add once the plant has reached this big. Maybe next time germ more than one ? some seedlings struggle to pop the shell off, some never pop it off and those that are struggling for a few days then it CAN sometimes affect their growth forever (or until they die lol)

step 1: Water peat pellets.

Step 2: Plant seed: Spear tip DOWN, flat/hole end UP.

Step 3: Store in area with temp: 21-25C, keep peat pellet moist AT ALL TIMES.

this is what i do.... it ALLWAYS works. im currently germinating over 100 seeds, of 4 strains for my outdoor.... 72 popped in the first 2 days, another 35 popped on the 3'rd day and another 15~ popped by the 5'th day....

I know I should germinate more than one but, I am trying to just have one plant without wasting too many seeds on my screw ups. Its ignorant, I know...

What I did was I tossed the seed in a shot glass with water and waited for her to sink (approx. 8 hours). After it popped I tossed it in a peat pellet and set it in my hydro set up. I make sure the pellet is staying moist, I give it a shot of water once maybe 2x a day and I try to leave it be. I will hope that she can pull through my mistakes. Fingers crossed for me guys. I'll start a grow journal when things start going right. Be sure to check it out.

ur probably drowning it. ambient temps and humidity are so much different from house to house but i water jiffys once a wk for clones and 2x a wk for seeds most of the time. I mostly use Rockwool these days and it needs it daily

maybe move peat pellet from the hydro set up to a window sill and see if it sprouts.

Noted. The watering has been halted. I'm not sure why I did not think of these things sooner but it all makes plenty of sense. I guess that's what happens when you go all gung-ho.

Get the seedling up and growing in a rw cube ,hand watered/fed in a nursery under a fluro. Not just slapped straight into the system under hid lighting.

sorry yeah i meant, my mate germs them in moist paper towels in the dark then puts them in a ROCKWOOL CUBE not a jiffy pellt lol although u can use jiffy pellets i dont like them i think they can be poorly designed and too tough for the root to push through. my mate using the rockwool cubes just puts them on the window sill, but he wets it every day jus like jessica d ^ says. and it works for him every time. put it under a 125 watt CFL and it will love you ! as soon as the root pokes through the bottom of the cube then put it in ur hydro or soil

I hate starting seeds in jiffys, however I use them for clones! Check out my start seeds thread below in my signature.

I can guarantee u will see them poking out in 3-5 days from opening the pack !!!

yea, well i hate seeing seeds in that USLESS paper towel method. good chance you will F your seeds up if you have big hands.

Jiffy's have the PERFECT moisture rating for seeds.... supply temps of 23 C... thats Perfect moisture, and temperature.....

Or I will plant seeds into solo cups of soil or coco and then put a bag on them...that way I don't have to water them, or worry about them drying out...

Bingo. When i run out of jiffy's its pots with plastic wrap or tin foil.

Seeds dont need light, just Moisture, air, and a perfect temperature. Do everything right and you dont have to disturb the supple seedling until it NEEDS to be moved.

There is nothing wrong in your method as I can see it does work. It does present RISK to the root system at a critical stage.
Starting roots outside of the intended medium would appear to be vanity in its pure form.

People should try different ways to figure out what works best for their own needs.

Most newer growers do overwater alot so just slow down on it. Jiffy's hold alot of water

Yes, yes it DOES include EVERYONE who uses the Stupid paper towel method.

The paper Towel method is used by grade schoolers to plant beans in Grade 4..... i did it, my children did it and my parrents did it.... its the way they teach CHILDREN to plant seeds (It shows how they absorb water, then expant, and release a root... creating life).... Plain and simple, it presents MANY more risks to the plant then whats actualy needed... everything from Airborne bacteria and fungi, viruses and squishing the plants when trying to transplant....

on the average i plant 300-400 Seeds a year depending on the year.... i have never squiched, smashed, broken, diseased or dried out a seedling.... i have LITERALY sprouted THOUSANDS of seeds....

Jiffy pellets are like 5 cents a peice.... stop being so damn cheap.

Bad news guys, it turns out my white widow has decided it wanted to kick the bucket I have a lesser strain (I assume so anyway since it was a freebie) that I'm starting back up. I found a place to get some cheaper white widow and I think I'll try again at some point. But for now I guess it couldn't hurt to play with a something along my experience level. I'm going with the "stupid paper towel" method just until I see the seed is viable. Then she will go into the peat puck, on that note wish me luck!
