hi guys,

So here is the deal. I have a friend who was deployed in afghanistan. He was able to get ahold of some seeds from a grower there who does his growing at about an 11-14000 foot elevation. he was told that the seeds were for high altitude growing and pure afghani/pakistani genetics. I was blessed with 7 seeds because my buddy knows me as a dabbler in breeding
I am really interested in hearing from ayone who may have grown similar genetics. Since it is pure indica and bred for high altitude growing i am guessing that it is a fast finisher and hardy.Would love to cross it with a kush hybrid and see what kind of phenotypes i could uncover.

Just got the seeds and excited to have a true landrace indica. keeping male pollen for future ect.

if it was me, i'd try to get a male that shows that same potency u talk about in its progeny from your afgans, and then blast that pollen on a very very tasty female. like a Plushberry, an Apollo11, a C99, Sour Diesel, GDP, etc. just something that you think tastes awesome.

I agree with J Cashman I'd be on the hunt for a male too, only I'd wanna grow em out first. ( not all I'd keep 2 stashed just in case) but ultimately I'd go "both ways" seed a female and use the male pollen on the kush hybrid see what I get & build from there. I must say congrats homie I've dreamed about visiting those regions (Afghan/Pakistan) & getting my hands on the PURE.

I doubt it is a fast finisher. I have grown out 2 landrace Afghans or Pakistani plants and they went 90 days in flower. Maple Leaf Indica from Sensi and Pakistani Valley Kush by World of Seeds.

if hes breeding, he'll have to grow and clone them first anyways to see how the males effect the progeny. it's really the only way to tell how a male will effect the desired females. grow the males, clone the males, flower the clones, blast desired females (clones, so that you can use the same mother again if needed), those seeds will be your F1s. from there, grow out and flower some of the F1s (again, take clones), when all the F1s are finished flowering, smoke them. then you can see how the different males effected each female clone, as well as search for the various phenos that may exist within each individual cross. select your favorite and keep it.

and obviously, keep the dad(s) that produced your favorite F1s so that you can forever use that male if you want to.

personaly i would let them all seed then sellect from the seeds it may take an extra harvest but it would be worth it.
7 seeds aint much realy .

First open pollinate and get a lifetime supply. Second be generous. Third, mix the best with everything good you can find!

Great replies guys. thanks. Yes im planning on growing all 7 out and cloning them all. thinking that i will flower females asp and see which one worth keeping. Then get to work on the males. Unless there is more trading going on than i think between farmers guessing there will be a dominant pheno.

most of the pure Afghan genes are hashy, acrid and harsh usually. But they are potent as hell! That's why they started crossing them with the sativaas back in the day. To break some of the harshness and acridness off the flavor. My Maple Leaf Indica, is almost pure afghan, and it's got a bland, but hashy taste....potent as hell. I would LOVE to have some pure afgahn seeds...your lucky bro!!

Not to be mean about this, but the best of the Afghani strains (like Mazar-i-Sharif) go back HUNDREDS of years.

Also, just for historical accuracy here, 22 years ago was 1992. That was about 15 years after the Disco era was over, and you might more fairly call it the "Grunge" era!

Anyway, if you really want to get the best possible Afghani strains, you truly do have to go back to the pre-Disco era (ie prior to 1980). That's because the Soviets invaded Afghanistan in '79 and destroyed most of the native hash production and growing. Some strains of the pre-Soviet lineage are still around, though. Supposedly "William's Wonder" and "Petrolia Headstash" represent two Pacific-acclimated pre-Soviet invasion Afghani strains, just to name two. And there are others that go back there, including the one mentioned below

Traditionally Afghan strains weren't smoked as flowers, but instead used to make hash, partly explaining why they aren't so tasty as some of the ones ganja smokers are more accustomed to.

The reason why hybridization became so popular was mainly to facilitate indoor growth under artificial light. Tall, stretchy, long flowering sativas don't do well inside. Indica strains can have narcotic-like potency, but they're also typically grown in arid climates and are highly susceptible to bud rot in wetter climates. Hybrids represent a "best of both worlds" mix.

Do you know what region they came from? If they came from down South then there prolly not worth much time, if their from up North then your lucky! the Northern shit is 2-3x more resinous and makes better hash .... most Real Afghani doesnt taste the greatest , as mentioned above the buds were/are never smoked, just grown to produce hash. But the quailty boils down to the location.... seems by altitude you prolly have N stuff , possibley containing Paki Purple Kush genetics if it was closer to the border. Good luck with these man! I know he said more west of where he got these is well known for cannabis growers. Ill document this once i pop them. Moving next month so may wait until then.

If they came from the Kunduz District then yur a lucky man Dotn hold me to this, but im prety that regions pot is cross polinated with PCK( Paki Citrali Kush) Pakistans landrace hashplant. Should be real good smoke .... if you make seeds with those you should find the diff phenotypes.

My go to smoke is MLI and I do not find it very potent. Medium strength, not weak either. I have heard many complain it is a little weak, but with the bud that is out there today that might just mean not killer. It is said to be 2 landrace Afghan indicas from pre Soviet era.

Taste is just ok but the buzz is quality all the way and no comedown or burnout. Reliable too. I grew out some mazar and found the buzz was annoying. Last thing I thought it would be, but a crappy buzz.

That actually falls in line with what i was told. Afghani...pakistani genetics that were suited to (for most of us) very high elevation growing. Maybe like you say they crossed an affy landrace with a paki to tailor it to their fields.
