.. so, i'll start off by saying i'm not the most techy person around, far from it, ...snip...
my question is, is it worth rooting my droid phone?? what are the chances that i will end up bricking the thing....snip...
If you are asking this question then you shouldn't do it.

.. so, i'll start off by saying i'm not the most techy person around, far from it, but i have been learning some stuff from a few friends who have the patience of an angel ...
my question is, is it worth rooting my droid phone?? what are the chances that i will end up bricking the thing and end up having a $300 paper weight??
not looking for any links or anything, just any thoughts on the idea of a non techy person attempting to root their phone is all..
any and all advice as always is appreciated.. ty.. :)

Seems like alot of work to me.I know I dont exert that much energy for myself, its for my Lady.If it comes down to Machinery I'll make a user friendly Cow Milking machine or something.

good thread dude. I'm currently using an HTC EVO 4G with Sprint that I want to flash over to MetroPCS on a $50 a month plan. You CAN root/ROM/flash an Android phone to another carrier. The problem with some, like mine, is that they're CDMA and don't use a SIM. But, they have an additional SIM slot in most cases, and that's where you'd throw the new SIM...and reboot after doing the root/ROM/flash.
I'm going to use the directions I found yesterday somewhere...and it'll either work or I will need a new phone.

Precisely! I didn't say this because I thought you were stupid. I said it because you have misgivings for whatever reason. If you do then heed them. I can't tell you how many times in my life I felt like I probably shouldn't do something and did it anyway with the expected results. I then spent a huge amount of time kicking myself for not listening to that little voice. That was what I meant, no insult intended.

Gonna bring this one back for the fact that I think I'm about to root my HTC Thunderbolt 4g.

I rooted my Incredible and it was so much better. As said before: longer battery, much faster, much faster internet, get rid of all the BS apps like Blockbuster (who the fck watches movies on their phone??).

HOWEVER, I did brick my incredible and was lucky enough that Verizons insurance didn't realize until after they sent me a new phone. I bricked it by trying to mess around with different Kernels (still dont really understand what they are).

Since then Verizon's insurance has dropped me so I was "forced" to go get my phone through Best Buy, and Geeks Squads Black Tie insurance. Come to find out... they will replace your phone even if you mucked it up rooting it. Pretty sweet!

mmkay i root every single phone i get and run a differ modified OS. First i get better battery life because not as many apps are running threw modified OS. U only root your phone to modify the OS. My battery was getting about a day, now i get almost 3 days with new OS. Before i got download speeds of 11Mbps now i get 16Mbps. phone is alot smoother does not crash. I LOVE IT. what kind of phone do u have. U also dont get all the added software and running processes. Also why to battery life is better because lets say u have a 1ghz cpu if u are not using phone it will downclock it to like 300mhz so u save batter and if u start using your phone it will give u more power as u need it :)
im learning android programming and still don't know how to root my android tab
would you so kindly show us how to root an android device?
