if u can run 2 400s why not?i mean besides the energy ur plants will thank u for the bigger footprint and intensity

Without the right amount of light, more plants do not equal more smoke. 400w is good for 4-6 plants. 600w 5-7. I would go for 2 400s and make a nice closet. If you ever change your mind you could start running veg and flower. Have a nice rotation.

it all depends too on the size you are growing your plants. if you are growing anything over 4' in flower then you'll need a bulb with more penetration than a 400w or supplemental lighting like T5's or CFL's around the lower canopy. lollipopping is another way. 2 400's would be ideal for that space though.
figure out what your plant footprint will be then light that. the room dimensions are pointless cause you aren't growing in the entire room. you have other equipment in there and you need to actually walk around.

more smaller plants = quicker harvest...not more or better smoke..good luck

lumatek sells a dimmable 600w dual ballast. controls 2 lamps from 1 ballast. you can get it for like $275. run both lamps dimmed to 400w with 400w bulbs. the only thing is though that it has to be wired 240v. that's an option though.
if not then i would still get 2 400w ballasts. a 600w only has a footprint of like 4x4 really when measuring optimal growth footcandles (5,000-10,000fc). a 400w is 3x3 so 2 of them will cover 6x3. when you have two lights side by side the space in the middle is receiving light from both bulbs. so you can keep them a little further apart. more like 3x7 with those 2 400w lights. so 16sq.ft with the 600w or 21sq.ft. with the 2 400w lights.
run both of them on hps. if you can't afford 2 sets of bulbs then just run hps. if you can afford 2 sets then run the mh bulbs for the first 2 weeks of flower. your plants benefit more from mh light during this period. then switch out the bulbs for hps ones for the last few weeks. if not then just run the hps; much better spectrum for an entire flower cycle. i also wouldn't run 1 mh and 1 hps. maybe if you had a 3rd light i would say do 1 mh and rotate your plants around. if anything i would just get some 6500k cfl's and hang them in the canopy for a more even light spectrum.

i would go with the 1000w for sure dude. i got a 8x7 grow room and i run 2 1000w air cooled hoods for just 6 ladies and it works sweet. the math comes out to just under 24 watts per sq/ft. (which is a little UNDER optimal specs) up to 40watts per sq/ft is the prime number in which comes out to 1 1000w per every 6x4 area.. 4-6 oz per plant every 60 days is what i pull...good luck and merry growing

try checking out footcandle charts that show the levels at canopy height. i used tohave a great one but i lost it during the hack. watts and lumens per square foot are pretty much pointless. neither is any help at all when growing plants. you want optimal footcandles (5,000-10,000fc) on the plant canopy within your footprint, PAR value, and spectrum of course.
