600 watt hortilux super hps bulb question? will it work in a digital ballast

ok i have heard all the stories of people having trouble with 600 watt hortilux bulbs either shattering or blowing...and i know that since then the have upgraded their bulbs with new packaging for the bulbs saying they will work in digital ballast...but i just bought this hortilux a few months ago and it has the old box,so i called the place where i bought the bulb and asked them about it and they said that it was a good bulb just old packaging...geuss i dont have a choice just have to try it and see what happens just hope it doesnt shatter my glass on my hood...so if anyone has had any bad exp.with a 600 watt hortilux please share them.

if it is a new one then yes no problem. they redesigned them to be more eco friendly and work with digi ballasts

shouldnt be a problem if its part of the old stock it may blow but it will be covered by the warrenty, worst(read the warrenty carefully) lie and say it was in a magnetic. the hortilux company will replace or the place you got it from should (they will get a credit from hortiluX) and wont inspect the bulb as closely and neither will hortilux they will take thier word for it.

i personally would buy a digilux they have a better spectrum, im currently running a hortlux in a digital, one of the old stock too, no probs at all. they had to reenforce the arc tube that was main problem, mine has a protected arc tube(wire wrapped around arc tube) theses will handle digitalis pretty well by design and extra stability from the wire around the arc tube.

complicated. in short, should work fine.

i didnt know you could use a 600 watt in a 1000 watt dimmable ballast.see i learn something new everytime i get on here...i just put the bulb in hood so far catastrophe adverted...what concerned me was that the bulb was in the old packaging but so far so good.

the lumatek ballast are dial-a-watt so i just put the ballast on 600w and run a 600w bulb in there. if you were running the ballast at 1000w then you would use a 1000w bulb.

cool i might get one of those...hey should that bulb be putting out more heat than my metal halide...my temps just went up by 3* degrees from 73 to 76

as long as there is no problem like flickering or mis firing the bulb is fine. could just be that the horilux bulb is putting out a lot more energy being a new bulb and higher quality. usually mh and hps bulbs don't make a difference in room temp. not that much at least. is the mh bulb old? what brand?

ok,what is IR and yea the metal halide is about two years old but has only been used twice and the hps bulb is only a few months old...the temps have since dropped back to normal but definitely puts out more radiant heat.
