Advice needed on venting

Hey guys,

I've seen venting ideas on here, but I need a unique solution of my own. That damn HPS, bless its powerful bright heart, is generatin serious heat, even with a tempered glass shielding. Check out the photo I attached and let me know what you think i could pull off to vent some of this crap out.

The cons: i cant cut into a wall or anything like that, and the closet doors are glass.

The pros: i got one fan directly blowing on my babies so they're happy, and another small fan sittin on top of the ballast right now blowing some cruddy air into the light system to cool it a little bit; it actually makes no sense cuz its using air from inside the closet lol!

So yea, any ghetto/makeshift idea would be appreciated, as you can imagine i'm damn broke from buying a new HPS and all that jazz

Uhm.. Do you have any exhaust in the room? You have to exhaust the hot air somewhere so cool air can come in. Get carbon filter, vortex(or other inline) or a dayton blower, and find a way to exchange the air in the room. It's a must.

I'm having a similar problem so I haven't set up a system yet. I have to use a closet, I can't cut any holes in any doors or vent to the outside (I don't want anything that permanant) and I'm trying to keep the whole thing stealth. I would say the best way would be to use the tubing similar to what you hook up to the back of a dryer as a 'port' to the fresh air. I'm fairly new though and trying to figure out what's best. Best of luck, it'd be great if we could get together and share the results to see how we did!

I would say screw it and hack a ole in your ceiling and geta huge blower with some ducting

I can't afford the price/noise of a blower... I live in "a place" where i cannot go drilling into the ceiling. I guess I can make a false wall out of foam or cardboard and make a ducting hole to vent out hot air, but that'll have to come later since i'm pressed for cash right now.

Any ideas as to how to route the ducting? i got two grills coming out of the light cover, so should i have a fan blowing into the light to blow hot air out of the second vent, or do i suck air straight out of one vent and allow 'cooler' air to be pulled by the other? I wonder if it even makes a difference...

For now, i've only slightly improved the situation by building a small cover over the grill where the tiny fan is; that way more air is shoved into the vent as opposed to simply being blown across it. Temps are in the 80's right now, so I'm gonna give it a day and tomorrow evening assess whether heat is a major issue for the plants.

is your op near any windows? i've seen many closet setups that are vented through windows using tubing similar to whats connected to a dryer.

I woke up this morning and checked the thermometer, it read just above 80 so I'm "OK" for now, when i get the chance i'm gonna invest in some air ducting and make a false wall out of cheap stuff and do my best with it i guess, unless someone has a better idea?

Could you some how inclose everything inside your closet? Like find a box, or build one out of wood. Then you could just get a blower to push the hot air out of the box.

That's what I think I'll have to do and my situation is similar....make a closet within a closet. It'll just limit the height of the plants is all. I'm more concerned about the odor than I am about the heat....I know that's counterintuitive to growing but things here are 'testy' in my 'hood.

The only issue you would have with this idea would be to make sure your closet has some sort of ventilation....or not, thinking about it a little more, maybe it would press your clothes! Two birds w/ one stone! Hehe.

frack that... use this solution to cool the temps inside a hot closet or cabinet: put a block of ice in a container(s) and blow fans at it to cool the air down... bamn... personal air conditioner (and pretty free!)

I call make "perm" changes to the closet for intake and exhaust. Any holes can be patched and repaired so you would never know anything took place, and its a hell of a lot less likely to be discovered if its truly stealth and not ghetto stealth with 3 extension cords leading into a closet with dryer hose comming out.

Do you have a suspended ceiling? that makes shit easy.

What you need to do is get a 20 dollar ducting booster fan from home depot, 10 bucks of dryer tube, the DIY carbon kit you can find on this site. Figure out how your room is constructed and get the exhaust to that window. You dont really need an intake, the negative pressure will vent house air into the closet fine.

I know you dont want to make changes to your apartment/parents house/dorm or anything like that, but if you want free dank ass nugget you gotta go the extra mile to make sure your opp isnt discovered.

If running through the walls/ceiling isnt possible (it is) You can even run it along the corner of the wall at the farthest part of the room. For 40 bucks you can keep room temp all day long and never worry about odor.

If none of that is cool remember low 80s isnt that bad anyway. Summer can get hot though
