Howzit elchuc? You might want to consider asking your questions to people who grow in the tropics since it's different than growing in other regions, i.e. the "Hawaii Growers" thread. In different parts of the islands we have the same conditions as you except the heat. You should be able to grow just about any strain, but indacas could be more likely to mold during the rainy season without some plastic covering to keep the rain off during flowering. Indacas won't veg for very long also in the tropics, but that doesn't mean you can't grow them, it just means you might get a few ounces instead of pounds like growers in temperate climates. Also I wouldn't worry about that street light at all. The sun is so powerful in the tropics that your plants probably won't even notice that street light. I know a guy here in Hawaii that has had his plants right underneath his porch lights and his plants will just continue to go along with what the sun is doing. I would also consider growing some landrace strains if I were you because you happen to live in a place where you can actually grow them, most people don't get the chance to try a 100% sativa because of lack of space or time or climate. Durban Poison or Kilimanjaro are a couple shorter flowering landrace strains you could try. Kali Mist and Cinderella 99 are the next two strains I'd like to try and I'm sure they'll do well in the tropics. FYI some landrace strains don't like a lot of ferts. And you're doing really good I think for your first time growing.

and whats your lat/long where you are in hawaii? time is not an issue at all for me when it comes to growing. space, is limited, but not too much vertically which matters a lot when it comes to growin a landrace sativa. i don't mind going for one long ass strain that takes fuckin forever to flower if it'll grow like a bitch and yield buds weighing equivalent to the yield of a rural indian mother

Ha ha ha. Papayas actually grow great here at lower elevations. On this island we have 10 of the worlds 15 climate zones. One side of the island is super wet and the other side is super dry and we have everything in between. And the summit of the island is 14,697 ft. so we even get snow every year here. It's one of the few places where you can go sledding and surfing within a couple hours of each other. And where I live the temperature stays between 50F and 75F all year, but at sea level it can get into the mid 90's in parts of the state. The hottest I have personally seen was 96F in Kahului, Maui. Also where I'm at we also get more rain than any other inhabited place in the nation and it's the epicenter for weed growing for the state. The downside is we have green harvest which is a program that patrols the state for weed growing by helicopter for law enforcement. I'm a MMJ cardholder so at least I can grow without too much worry, except the cops sometimes pretend like MMJ isn't legal here and screw with MMJ patients for growing their medicine. So even though I'm legal to grow I still try to keep my plants non-obvious just so I don't get hassled. And the lat./long. is about 19N. and 155W. I think the strains you have lined up sound like good strains to grow for your climate. Also I don't think 100% sativa strains are known for big yields but the high is crazy. I had some last night and it was almost psychedelic and I was literally running around getting stuff done, no joke. A 100% sativa I'd like to try is Dr. Grinspoon. I'm in the middle of moving to another island so maybe once I get settled in over there I'll give it a run.

Maybe you didn't read his previous posts but he said a good portion of Indian grown weed isn't that good. I know a few people in hawaii that have lived in India and have said the same thing. You shouldn't criticise him for wanting to grow his own bud, but maybe you were just joking. And @ elchup: just to give you an idea of how much rain we can get here the record is 32 inches 24 hours.

it's always shifting between 13/11 and 11/13 throughout the year...we're at 920m elevation, thats around 3000 feet or so i think...summers are semi humid, monsoons are...monsoons. haha
i hope the papaya comes out nice, i just want some nice buds, i'm counting on the purple widow and these landrace strains for yield

JUST GOT THE SEEDS FOLKS suggested method of germination? soaking? planting straight up? i've read a lot of guides but i recently read the guide on the mandala seeds website and i'm as confused as an ostrich in a chicken coop

haven't read the mandala grow guide, i have heard that it's supposed to be pretty good
many of us soak, the wet paper towel is used a lot
after soaking, plant them at the 1st sign of a tap root

that's generally what i do with my good old landrace seeds, dunno if that's the best idea for these ones, i always soak in water,
and at first signs of taproot, soil and sun

decided to follow the mandala guide and planted them straight in the soil. we shall see.

seemed to work somewhat, i prefer my regular method of soaking in water till the seed starts to split and show white inside then it goes straight in the moist soil. i got 3/4 seeds to germinate (papaya) by direct planting. one of them has one and a half leaves (happens...) and the other two are fine, one is still apparently emotionally attached to the seed and is still holding on to it. but i'm not doing that for the rest of the seeds, soaked 4 purp widows a lil over 12 hours ago, just put one that had split in the soil. will soak more soon...

latest pics, one plant is really tied down, it's spreading across the entire space. the other one has been topped, lst'd and now allowed to grow freely, the other one was lst'd, allowed to gain some height, and now lst'd again.
couple of potted landrace sativas, one is small but it seems to have relatively close internodes, will have to see...
the three germinated papayas are at the end in their pots.
