this raises the question of nature vs nuture.
instead of engineering them in the womb, can we let them be born how they were meant to be, but mold and shape them with science to be what we want?

i know its horrible. there are many pluses and minuses to genetic engineering, and all science can be used to hurt more than it helps. but i highly doubt that will happen if we fucking fix the way we educate our children, giving them a lacking education
I couldn't agree more. But throwing money at it hasn't been the answer. It's probably more in the parent being very involved.

What would be the purpose? Would it just make people feel better about their moral standards or something? I find no point in it. If a child has a positive mutation and then science fucks with it for another trait, we'd still lose that helpful mutation.

i agree, its not about money, finland does it with less money than we do. there has to be a shift within the parents, within the society. money isnt the key, its involvement and positive reinforcement that build a good student.

So nobody would take scientists up on their offer? That either tells me we're ignorant or we are good hearted cautious people.. can't tell.

the purpose is to have children who grow up to be our conception of happy, well adjusted, "normal'. They could have all medical problems fixed, behaviors prone to what we consider bad in our society to be conditioned away. its a terrifying thought

I hate that...damn slugs in the garden beds...and those...groundhog gophery things that pull everything under the dirt lol. But they're cute as hell so I don't kill them. I just try to fend them off.

I think that the idea of living on forever though our children would be diminished and that is not good for society.

If they really wanted to control the poor population they would just put something into the WIC program food or public water systems. There was a book on that one too.
