I would like to buy a RO system. I don't need too much water. I just have ten plants in soil and for drinking water. I'm spending 40/mo now on having spring water delivered so I'll come out ahead pretty quick.

Any recommendations? Just any system off of eBay? I'm looking to install something permanent under my kitchen sink.

Just bought a 4 filter RO system from Costco...took about an hour to install, and it is giving us 3 gal of pure RO water every 3 hrs.

If you change to RO water be sure to add a bit of cal-mag to your nute feedings, as the RO process removes "everything" from the water, including some good things.

Best investment I've made in a long time.

Ifishdizzy: Do you know about the systems that have 5 or 6 filters and the UV too? Just extra waste for only a little improvement? Because I'm drinking this water too I wanted it free of everything.

the 5 or 6 filter systems are the systems that remove EVERYTHING.... i mean 000ppm water. nothing.

in my opinion....that is great. but the systems with the 3 stage are good too. i only got the 100gpd unit b/c i have modded a 50gallon(i think) trash can for a standby res. i probably use about 15-30 gallon in my res. so i think i will keep the whole 40-50 gallons just to make sure....in fact of needed flush or something. it was mainly for res changes and we all know how long it takes for it to produce a gallon.

ill take the 3stage 001-012 ppms of water vs tap water anyday.

as far as the UV sterlization...i think its cool...but overkill for me. maybe ill look into it. but yea if you are going to be drinking the water....shit i say why not get the UV setup. If i were you....i'd do the same exact thing as im doing and build you a res or something.

and if you're drinking it....

you may as well install some float pumps and such to have the RO fill when it drops below the desired line

i only got the hydrologic cuz i got a price match for 180 and its supposed to waste 25% less than other RO systems

I got a RO/DI system for under 100$, took city water that was at 220 ppm down to 0-1 ppm

KMD eCommerce Crop.

I ordered it off ebay, I thought it was way to cheap to work good but I've been running it non-stop for a month now and the water ppm is still between 0-1 ppm.

The whole deal on RO is keeping the membrane replaced. That is whut makes it work. If you really want some clean water steam distillation be the only way to go. That will cure whut ails ya. Some of the dangerous Bible Believing gun toting Survior type web sites show you how to build a big one which run on Solar Power. Talk about being earth friendly huh? That is the only system which will get rid of volatile gasses. RO is a peece o sheet. Invented for yups with gold visor cards :)

Not all us yuppies in our condos have room under our sink for a big "Survior type" clean water steam distillation plant run that's run off solar power.
