Apparently I am doing a few things right but I KNOW I can do a lot better so I will continue to push for better results. Others have much better techniques than me.

I would NOT recommend Sunshine Mix4 to anybody even though it is cheap and effective. It does work if that is what you have available.

I do recommend BotaniCare if you use the entire nutrient line with no extras but I hope to move to SuperSoil soon.

Thanks! They were topped, vegged, then flipped at about 8-12" if I recall correctly. I missed recording the starting measurement.

FINISH RESULTS: 04/10-23/2012

Our 4 Vortex phenos are finished and patient reports are coming in, starting at dry and continuing into the 2nd week of jar curing. Reports are extremely positive with Vortex hitting on all cylinders for patients who need a strong sativa in their medical cannabis plan. Vortex is powerful, energetic and could be too strong for some patients. The resin content of all 4 phenos is amazing, as is the pungent rotten citrus aroma from all 4. The overall scoring is close enough that there is no winner or loser here (differences in trim difficulty account for much), so all 4 phenotypes are solid and will remain in our genetic pool for further testing at full size. For cracking 5 beans and getting these 4 phenos... we couldn't be happier.

169g total / 4 plants = 42.25g / plant average from 1 gallon hard pots, sunshine mix4 soil, botanicare at 75% strength.

trim: 4 - difficult​

aroma: 7 - citrus lemon, baby vomit​

look: 7 - orange/red hairs, sparkling with resin​

taste: 8 - peppery, lemony​

SCORE: 35​

look: 8 - tight red sativa nugs with high resin content​

SCORE: 38​

trim: 4 - difficult. resin is off the hook, needing frequent cleaning​

aroma: 8 - rotten lemon citrus​

look: 9 - tight bright red sativa nugs with extra high resin content​

high: 9 - instant onset between the eyes, euphoric, uplifting, heady​

SCORE: 38​

My 10 gallon run of these 4 phenos is about to hit flower so I am looking forward to that coming down the line.

One pheno had a clearer or stronger lemon smell than the others? I wonder, if you know, whether you could detect that difference in a stem rub test before harvesting?

I haven't done stem rubs on any of ours. I find my fingers and hands get a hybrid smell when working in the garden lol, hard to tell who is who after a while.

I have not run Vortex outside and indoor is much more my specialty. I would say Vortex needs support in my experience, staking up, etc. So be ready for that whether you are in or out.

I think you will be really happy with the results either way and would love to hear of your experience.

i agree, vortex can be kept short, but it is not sturdy.....it is rather delicate and floppy......thin stems, lots of bud sites, and saggy....lots of support.....i would scrog it for sure outside.....good luck!

I plan to photo update this thread this weekend They are coming along very nicely, 4 weeks in now and budding like mad. It is such a vigorous plant, really looking forward to finishing them out in these 10's...

... i think i remember somewhere hearing that Vortex doesn't do all that well outside, mainly and the end of the season, IF you are in a early damp/rainy zone like PNW? Right now Vortex is my favorite, but im just too leery of putting so much love and energy into a big outdoor plant, to have problems at the end. Besides, thats what subs bloodwreck crosses are for ah?
With that said, i could be just flat wrong, and someone please correct me if that is so.

I think the biggest issue is how spindly it is, it's a flopper. so keeping it up in an outdoor setting would be a pain.

I think Budologist is doing an outdoor run with the Vortex, but he's not up in our neck of the woods. lol.

this all sounds right to me but again, I am no outdoor specialist. TimeWreck is what my limited knowledge would recommend for outdoor PNW right now. And I know Sub has some early finishing gear in the works for short seasons... let's all hope
