Trying to decide on which one to pick. +rep

i just started a stealth cab in a storage closet 71x41x19 partitioned off was planning on a veg/flower side but im not really sure what to use.

i was thinking i could just get cfls for the veg side and a led for the flower side or should i get led for veg and hid for flower? heat isnt necessarily a big problem there is more then enough room to install ducting but i don't want the extra noise if its not needed all the extra fans blowers plus hid make a humming noise what do you think, it has to be almost undetectable

so i was looking at the pro-grow series from what iv heard blackstar is crap tell me what you think any and all input is greatly appreciated and as always +rep to best answer stay high

i moved this thread bcuz apparently the topic it originated from is dead

basically what im looking for is what would you do if you had the same situation as me where noise is a serious issue as in the less the betterIMG_20120608_191435.jpg

so the only issue is noise if i do cfls and leds i will prolly end up using the top of the flower room as a vent for both flower and veg rooms maybe with c02 idk i havent decided yet let me know what you think

t5 for veg. hps for flower.

t5 will output no noise compared to LED's, which will add the extra noise.
only noise from this setup will be your intake/outake, which wont be extremely loud.
you will need the intake/out either way.

id be going with CFL's for veg and a 250w HPS for the flower room

im assuming you wont be vegging them into monsters due to space restrictions in flower room so i think the CFL's would do the job fine without spending bigg bucks on the LED

well i don't think i can use t5 the veg room is 19x19 and the smallest ones available are 2' 24" so thats out of the question i hate using cfls it seems so ghetto

get a small mh 100 150w or so from home depot for veg and a 250w hps for flower

I would do a succesful grow before starting to mess with co2, you first gotta make sure you can grow it right. I am not using co2 and I will never do it again because I grow for myself (yield isnt a big factor)and I prefer to have fresh air in my room all the time. To run co2 you need a sealed room and a dehumidifier. I tried in small cab before and it was always useless. co2 will only help increase yield if you do it right, and it will not improve the potency/quality of the medicine from what I have read so far. I have seen great grow journals with huge yield without co2 addition....

Cfl > led > hid

Hid - inefficient and expensive to run.
Led - too high initial cost and too many performance questions. Debate over diode frequencies..
Cfl - perfect choice if you use both blue and red spectrums correctly.

personally i have nothing against cfls they just don't put out enough i had six 150w 2700k in my last stealth cab and buds were still small and fluffy

at almost 60$ ea that like 400$ for a couple hundred more i could just get a led 900w and still crap bud compared to a 400w hps i bought for 90$ off craigslist and my nugs were as big as baseballs nd just as hard

My friend in finland like's led' also I just sent her a ufo 90 watt w/2 watt diode's and I know you can certainly do the same with awesome result's! Try to get diode's that are at least 2 watt's preferably 3 if possible!! Quiet and worth your consideration...cfl's= heat!! T5's are less and do a great job,,,all quiet w/box fan's your golden!! Remember to move the air around the plant so it can asperate (Breath) oscilating are best but do as you can...wishing you the best! Hope this help's my brother! jackView attachment 2204990owl's shawdow 2 019.jpgView attachment 220499890watt UFO.jpg

agreed, i use a 85w CFL, 6500k for growing, and have gotten big lush plants, then i switch to 250W hps for flowering and have gotten big buds. the heat isnt too high, in the summer it might get up to 85 but a small fan quickly lowers it, in the winter, theres no issues. i wouldnt go flowering with any less than a HPS, its the best way to get buds. the price of the CFL, on the electric bill is barely felt, and if your timing for flowering is 12/12, theres not too much of an increase using the HPS.

vegging with a metal halide gets very expensive quickly and temps rise fast too, cuz of the light being on so many hours, but a 250w hps for 12 hours, its not a big increase on either. can you get away with no fan? yea. but a small one just to move stuff around is great, and quiet

do you think i should get a digi ballast i was looking at http://www.htgsupply.com/Product-Digital-Greenhouse-Dimmable-400-Watt-Grow-Light.asp then just putting it on 50% at 200w for the main part of flower then the last couple weeks bumping it up that with a cooltube to basically remove all heat issues see in the past heat has been such a downfall for me iv lost entire crop on more then one occasion bcuz temps get into the 100s upper 90s in the summer is a miracle for me

if temps are getting that high... i dunno. honestly, i have a 250w HPS in a 7x3 closet and with the doors closed, and the AC of the house at 72F the plants never get hotter then 85, and thats still with no fan. perhaps you should try increasing the distance of the light to the plants, and making the plants a little smaller (so theres more room). i also cut off a lot of the lower vegetation, and some fan leaves to increase air flow. my issue is that i flower 2 at a time, and both are topped a bunch, turning them into small bushes, with 10-15 tops. airflow is key.

another thing i do, is i spread these cut leaves on top of the soil, making about an inch of dead leaf mulch. this cools the soil down a lot, and decreases how often you have to water

i think the key thing when picking a ballast is heat given off, try mounting it outside the grow area, or anywhere else really, that gives off a lot of heat. and the higher up the heat, the better, dont put the ballast under the plants for example
