This is not going to work for ya, Find some pellets made of coconut fiber, peat can sometimes be too acidic to help I've found that jiffy pots vary in acidity. get Cocunut fiber expandable pots,go to the nursury and pick up roottone this stuff is cheap and works pretty well.
Next a stop at the family dollar, your looking for a clear plastic storage tub with lid, the lid is going to be your tray. Drill a couple holes in the bottom of the tub, Are you are using a germination pad? this thing is like a heating pad for your root systems. (highly recomended) The pad speeds up the process by several days, minimalizing the stress and necrotic leaves. You now need something to put them to bed in. I pour a bed of perolite into the flipped over lid this helps tall clones to stay up right. and keeps moisture around the clones media it also provides the moisture required for condinsation to ocure inside your dome.If not perolite find and old rag wool rug and wash it in the laundry, must be clean! These work well to set your expandable pellets on, and wont let your pellets get too dry too fast. Truck stops sell these rag wools for about $5.00 and they work good.
ok besides an old aquarium light, or some sort of strip light, cfls whatever, your ready to go.
Ok heres the procedure:
#1 prepare your media soak them to full expansion.
#2 next put a dab of
roottone down the hole, this is powder so just a dusting.
#3 select your clone site make cut at 45deg angle with sissors
#4 do this rappidly with a sterile razor knife make another Cut 1/4 in up from the original , don't pinch like sissors pull the blade, let it do the work, object is don't put crushing presure when cut is made.
#5 dip clone in rootone powder, cover just the end of the cut, exposed cut should be covered with a blob of powder.
#6 insert into hole in pellet fill in the hole with loose media a (busted up expandable,) so its firmly in place. put it on your clone tray.(Lid ) of storage tub. Water, put tub over it like a dome, put light down as far as you can to shine through top of dome your done!
When you get your dome, it's wise to pick one up that will be tall enough to accomidate larger clones. The more foliage on the clone the better, remember to take some snippers and just barelly snip the tips off the clones leaves, this helps keep that nasty yellowing (necrosis) on the tips of the leaves as the cloning process is hapenning. The humidity in the dome is important because thats how the clone gets watered, it absorbls the moisture through the leaves as the roots form.
All these grow medias and materials can be found in garden centers. rootone, cocunut pellets, jiffy pots , perolite, even the propagation mat, at fairly low expense don't bother buying a manafactured domes, they are clearlly more money than brains, plastic tubs are $5.00 at family dollar for a large one. Dont bother with the little propagation trays with the little cocunut pellets in the cups, worthless as well as too expensive, jiffys or the cocunut type jiffys if you are not going to order rock wool cubes. (these are the best) grodan is my favorite because they are given to me by the manafacture.
check my album for makeshift shower clone closet , this is a simple makeshift area to grow your clones utilizing a bath tub shower combo. You will need an extra bath to do this or you will stink after a week or two.
The cloneing process useing these cheaper materials will take a while more than average. Don't give up on your clones, If they are still green to some extent. Sometimes after a 2nd or 3rd week, if no roots add a little more rootone around the stalk, wet it and give it a week. A propagation mat can speed things up by a week or two. I get mine done in about a week useing beter materials found at IGROWHYDRO.com.
I use grodan rookwool cubes and old tryed and true clonex gel. no conditioners my well water seems to put the cubes to perfect.
