It would devastate the economy

it is FAR too efficient and would obviate demand for almost all other crops, disasterously lowering prices of everything else immediately.

I don't really know how to respond to this. Anti-psychotic drugs maybe. Back when it was legal, you know, for all of recorded history and prehistory before this disastrous war on drugs, cannabis was legal. People still made a living, evolved from primate ancestors, discovered fire, colonized the planet, and all that other progressive stuff.
