So you may not want me, but I'm comin anyway WA and OR are where it's at to be a grower right now as far as I'm concerned. As cool as portland sounds, I'm thinking the Seattle area is going to end up being our home -- for one thing I'm in IT and the job market seems to be best for that near Seattle. So here's my questions for now...
1) How is the IT job market in seattle right now? I checked out some job listings and it seems like there are jobs there for what I do available, but someone who lives there might know better than me Nowhere near as many IT jobs in my area available in portland. What is the norm for drug testing in the IT field there? Here it is piss tests, and I've had no problems with those (fake urine)
2) I'm not super picky on where to live (at least at first) - I know the coastal areas are expensive and the cost of living is probably higher than where I'm at... what are some good areas to look at living for someone who is not poor but also doesn't want to spend their salary on where they live.. would love to live on land, don't mind living in the country, but it'd have to be near enough to commute to seattle probably - would love to get a remote job but doubt that'll end up being the case. Not really into downtown living... someplace reasonably affordable that does not have a lot of crime is the goal. Will probably be looking to rent a house at first.
Open to any other suggestions as well... i've done the move across the country to someplace i've never lived thing before but never to west coast. Hoping to move July 2013 when current lease is up -- wanting to save and plan for it now
