Why do I keep hearing that I cant get more than a 2 oz harvest off 5 plants under a 400w mh for veg than a 400w hps for flowering? What is a realistic yield with this setup?
thank god someone replied...I'm thinking of trying Uncle Ben's topping technique for 4 main colas...and vegging for atleast 7-8 weeks. Decent idea?Quite a lot, depending on a number of factors. But all things being equal, I'd expect around 1.5 - 2 oz per plant with a lot of veg time and training.
If you are a true expert and do everything right, you can hope for 1 gram/watt, that's just under a pound - about 14 oz. I doubt if you fall in this catagory. Why do I keep hearing that I cant get more than a 2 oz harvest off 5 plants under a 400w mh for veg than a 400w hps for flowering? You just took a huge shit on my hopes and dreams.....lol..Idk though 2oz per plant sounds doable. I'm already halfway through my first grow with 3 blueberry girls from seed. I'm not experienced..but I'm no idiot. If you are a true expert and do everything right, you can hope for 1 gram/watt, that's just under a pound - about 14 oz. I doubt if you fall in this catagory. If you are a "Fair-to-middlin'" experienced grower, you can expect about half that much, or, .5 gram/watt - about 7 oz. Most growers would be satisfied with that amount If you are a rank Noobie (sorry, the question kinda gave you away), you can consider yourself lucky if you end up with .25 gram/watt - or about 3 1/2 oz. Of course, that's if your plants survive that first grow. Sorry if that seems a little harsh, I'm just trying to be realistic. A few first time growers seem to do most things right (totally by accident) and wind up with a decent yield, maybe around .5 gram/watt. Next grow they fall back to .25 gram/watt, or worse yet, kill thier plants because they don't really know what they're doing. The bottom line is, it's all about repitition and experience.
holy shit pulling an lb 3/4 times a year? care to share your methods? we have pretty much the same setup...you can pm me if you wanti put 8 plants under a 400 watt hps and within 3 months or so im getting 2oz off EACH plant. using all fox farm stuff
I doubt if anybody falls into that category. I want to see pic proof of a 14oz yield under a 400hpsIf you are a true expert and do everything right, you can hope for 1 gram/watt, that's just under a pound - about 14 oz. I doubt if you fall in this catagory.
gotcha on the cfls, and yeah UB's technique is to cut the main stem at the 2nd node after its grown to 5-6 nodes. So I assume I'd let em veg atleast 4 more weeks after topping'cfl for flower (red) or cfl to veg (blue)' .. topping does work you need to veg for longer after you cut it to let the branches grow up
By the way, I'm not knocking Noobies - everybody has to start somewhere. The whole growing experience is a "Learning Curve". I'm sure that some Noobies have great 1st or 2nd grows, that just means they did something right (either by doing thier homework, or just accidentally). That doesn't make them an expert, it just means they are on the right track. So if I manage to yield 8 ounces dry
I wasn't responding to your question, I was responding to the OP; whatever you are capable of yielding has no bearing on what someone else might be able to do.
out of a pure sativa under a 400 HPS, I'm just a middlin' grower?
Again, the OP said nothing about "sativa" or any particular strain (that I recall) for that matter. News Flash, my post had absolutely nothing to do with you. It was a very general question, comming from what appeared to be a Noobie. A later post confirmed that when he said he had just finished his first grow.
Sorry, but pigeonholing grower experience and success into yield categories is just silly
You have every right to believe that! But if you truely believe that Noobies don't suffer a higher failure rate (or at least suffer from "Low Yield" a lot) - then I've got some Real Estate in Florida I'd like to talk about! Perhaps you hadn't noticed, but it's the Noobies that ask most of the simple questions and make, by far, the majority of the growing mistakes. If you don't understand that; you must be looking in the wrong place, or else you are just naive.
and ignores the variances in strain and race that affect all harvest numbers.
Granted! The whole point is that Noobies make more mistakes and have lower yields because of that fact. Hopefully learning from thier mistakes is what constitutes experience. The whole friggin' world works that way, why should growing pot be any different?
