Germinating Seeds

I am trying to figure out if my seeds are dead or if I am just beginning to panic.

I started them in a seed starting system, with the dome and little soil pods, I watered them and have been leaving them on the back porch. It has been at least a week and no sign up sprouting, I think they may have been over watered.

Is there anything I can do to find out, or save them?

Germinate them between 2 wet paper towles in a plate with another plate over it as a cover so moisture dissent escape.

Wait 24 hours and plant the beans that grew taproots.

Is it too late to do that with my current seeds? What are the chances they are ruined?

Probably too late. A week in wet soil may have caused them to rot.

Next time place a propagation (heating pad) under it and set it for 75 to 80 deg, keep them moist don't drown them. If your dome sits on a tray, put some perlite in the tray, add some h20 enough to keep the perlite moist. Some seeds take as much as 10 to 12 days, at least in my case.

Don't use a heating pad unless its fking freezing in your house.

Plant the Seed POINTY PART UP in soil rooter cubes, 1/4th an inch or less.. does not need to be deep at all and I never cover my seeds with dirt, I can always see my seed from lookin in the hole.

Pointy Part up, flat part in the soil.. make sure its moist and it should pop within 1-3days. The Taproot will come from the Top of the seed and make a complete flip towards the soil thus making the seed part flip over and be right side up.

So I guess it has only been 4-5 days, but I think they were too moist? Should I do anything to attempt to save them or just wait it out?

Maybe I should dig one up to see?

dig em up...see if they popped and rotted or never popped...sometimes the shoot is buried and dying under neath trying to get to the surface...next time just soak em in water for 18 hours then put in the paper towels and 2 plates...no heating pad unless it is below 55 in the house.

i just put mine in root riot cubes. then into the lil plastic holders. then into my small clone dome. check each day. easy peasy. i love it. then, i just plant them into a one gal pot, and let em rock! we try to hard. this is an easy thing. often the simplest ways are best. and its easier on the nerves, too. i have some lemon skunk beans comming. sweet....

Thanks I did this and put them in my tent so they could get some extra warmth, since it hasnt been the hottest here lately

What would they look like if rotten?

I think the easiest way is the paper towel method and just make sure u keep em in a warm dark place. Then once sprouted simply plant em root down, just not too deep. They would be mushy or discolored, if they r still firm and just haven't opened up they should still be good.

like mushy and dead..the taproot will look like a little puss like from a pimple instead of a solid root.

I pushed aside and some of the soil and it looked kind of swollen and green, should I continue digging and post a picture or just give it a couple days?

green is good...it means it needs light...scrape away some dirt ..not all of it, just enough so the top is barely getting through the top soil...post pics yes

hard to see it in ur pic, but yeah if u moved the dirt aside and u see green like leaves it means u buried it too deep.

Dug it up fully, its green with no taproot or any kind of root sticking out. Very green, and looks a little squishy but I decided against squeezing it to find out.

that pic gives me a headache looking at the center, lol...if it is green with no root then just make sure it does not dry out....are there holes in that container for drainage?...usually the lighter green or yellow means buried too deep and spent to much time under ground...green is good as long as it does not dry out it should make it..you can mist with spray bottle instead of drowning the medium.

Sorry for the wait, here is a decent picture of one fully dug up, it also still feels firm, the starting pods I am using I am really worried about should I remove them and try a new method (since to me they look like nothing has really happened)

Also it looks squishy, but I gave it a gentle squeeze and didn't feel any squishiness
