Im worried!

I am a first timer...growing outside no less! I'm worried that I'm doing everything wrong. I have given them nutes, I have to water twice a day, because it's hot (88+), the wind has been blowing. My leaves look like crap. I don't know if I have over-watered, under-watered or over-nuted. I'm afraid to flush them for fear I will be causing more harm than good. What is the absolute best thing to do that won't kill them. I've already lost 2 plants, only have 8 left. HELP!!!

If you've got to water twice a day I'm gonna suggest you get larger pots .. much much larger and add vermiculite and perlite.

You are probably over watering. It gets hotter than that here and I water once every other day.

Thank you for responding...My girls are so young, the moisture around the wool plug is dry. So, I water. I live in the central valley of Calif., out in the country, my garden has direct sunlight all day starting at 9AM until the sun goes down. I'm worried they are burning up.

My husband is a Vet too.

Take them out of the sun for the hottest part of the day. I live in Florida, and it's already 90 here I water only once a day. All I have is miracle grow soil. You could topdress to add more soil to hold moisture.

i think you may be overwatering and adding fert to early. how tall are they? stick your finger in the soil. is it wet? then you dont need to add water if its dry then water. i think they dont need any fert for the first month.

if they are so young an vulnerable....... can't you keep them inside a while longer.......? till you feel they are large enough to withstand hot windyness...........? also........ just relax....... every noob goes thru the same thing....... you just don't know stuff till you learn stuff..... so don't worry BE Happy :)

I'm probably pretty close to you. I'm also central valley last year I had some in 2gallon pots I was having to water daily because there were just too many roots. Get bigger pots and water every other day otherwise you'll end up drowning those things trust me. you can see me drown some of my purples in last years grow lol. oh well live and learn but on the real you should only be watering every 3-4 days get bigger pots with better moisture retention and only water when the soil 3-4" is dry.

then long story short. you're over watering leave those bitches alone. if you really think they are getting too much sun then go to home depot and buy a 16' reed screen and use that to block some light.... its 20$

the central valley has hot and dry heat, mostly 90-100+ all summer long. i would water at least every two days or every other day especially if you are using a mix with a decent amount of perlite. If you can keep them out of direct sunlight during the mid afternoon heatwave it should help a lot. it all leads down to your soil mix and how much drainage you are getting, etc.....

I would put the umbrella on them between 1 and 4pm until they get a little larger. Mulch around the roots leaves or something, just don't let it touch the stem. That will help to keep the roots cool. Good luck!
