nodrama switches over to dr kynes after making an ass out of himself.
Even NASA uses silver rather than chlorine. It takes about 15 times more chlorine to disinfect water with silver, plus silver kills way more pathogens. Chlorine, amonia and chloramines are just easier. The government would rather give Michele Obama premium vodka instead of making you safe. Say thank you.

Btw, chloramines don't go away without either a 5-stage RO system or distillation. Government ftw.

You can knock out chloramines with sulfite or thiosulfate.

I was told by folks who'd know that in the first half of the 20th century, Vienna (Austria) treated its potable water with silver nitrate. They went over to ozone as the water sterilant, which does not leave a toxic residue as the silver salt did. cn

my understanding is that nasa uses UV light to sterilize the recycled water of the international space station, and the space shuttles UV irradiation kills 100% of all bacterium and viruses, weighs nothing and never runs out.

How do you get rid of sulfite?

That's right, because only Bucky and Nodrama grow shit other than dope.

Hey L Ron, I still need to know how Bucky and Gyro finally got it on. Don't cheap out with the Starz version, I want the San Francisco sticky floor theater version!

i know it works, thats why i put a length of copper wire in my hydroponic reservoir, i didnt think nasa would put their trust in folk wisdom though. thanks for the link.

i reckon i read someplace they still use UV to sterilize recycled water. no clue where i read it, just a foggy recall of the device which was a strong UV light shining on an acrylic tube where the water circulates through the UV bath before being pumped to the potable tanks.

I'd be willing to bet that silver is a good bit more than 15x the value of chlorine. I doubt it would be as useful on earth, where there is no shortage of chlorine. Seeing as I haven't heard of any huge bouts of disease from drinking water. I'd say chlorine is getting the job done just fine. It's great for many applications, I'm sure. I just have yet to see a real solid point to changing from the current system.

Chloramines are much more stable than chlorine, and therefore less likely to produce hazardous byproducts than chlorine.

actually i think he meant that with silver ions you need 1/15th the amount of chlorine to do the job.

Nope, cheaper isn't better every time. That was not very conductive to progressing anything though. This isn't a life-endangering issue on any level. At least, not that I was aware of. I haven't heard of a case of death by tap chlorine in tap water lately. All you're doing here is making an inflammatory statement with no substance. I never stated, nor implied, that I'd prefer people dying over spending a few dollars. However, can you show me any conclusive evidence that shows chlorinated water is a legitimate health hazard? If not, then your implication has no leg to stand on.
