Killed a Black Snake today...

So I go out to my patch this evening to give my ladies some food. As I walk up I find my deer netting bunched up in a spot and closer inspection there was a Black Snake (chicken Snake) all wrapped up in it. I feel horrible, and will never use this stuff again. (First time grower mistake) Anyway I feel like this will lead to some bad nature karma and just wanted to tell someone.... haha. RIP Black Snake

I have also gotten rid of my bird netting for my vegetable this year because I had to rescue a pair of gopher snakes a couple of weeks ago and a king snake last week. It is a shitty feeling.

I thought you did it on purpose. I love killing and eating deer but never have understood taking 2x4's to snakes. That bird netting is like land based gill nets but it's CHEAP and it works. I haven't caught anything yet but it keeps the deer out. At least fo now.:leaf:

when reading the title i thought u just killed a snake for sake of it being around ur plants, i was about to come on here and yell at u, glad to see thats not the case and u have a heart. regarding bad karma, i feel if its not deliberate and u recognize that a life was lost, not just a useless snake as others might say, and u feel for the animal, and are sad at the loss of it, i dnt think that accounts for bad karma. its the realization that and animal was lost bc of things u put out there, and u feel bad. had u seen the snake said whatever, chucked it and went about ur day without a second thought, karma might come ur way

I have a bunch of black snakes and corn snakes in my yard. I was out looking at my plants yesterday, and found myself eye to eye with a corn snake that was wound around one of my fast neville's. It startled me because I wasn't expecting it! They are so used to me that they don't even run away anymore. The only thing I don't like about the big black snakes is that they steal my chicken Jemima's eggs, but she has started laying them in a potted geranium on my porch, so now I think I can collect them before the snakes do.
