I used to make 5 gallons of wine from kits. I think it ended up costing about $2.25 a bottle. My wifes favorite was White Merlot. 13%

Right now it's all about the brewsky. Did a 5 gal batch of Irish Red that was kegged up two weeks ago. I added 1 extra lb of honey to the boil to boost the alcohol % a bit. Next week will be force carbing the keg and serving.

In the next couple weeks will be brewing up a Sierra Madre Pale Ale extract kit (Sierra Nevada Pale Ale) and an Extra Pale Ale extract kit.

Nothing like smoking a bowl and drinking homebrew. Wine takes too damn long.

I got a gallon fermenting in my basement as we speak.Just wondering how it tastes like and if a half gallon of it would get me drunk. Since it only cost me about $2 to make it, it would be a success even if it gave me a buzz. I know alcohol aint no hallucinatory substance but though this would be the best section to post in.
That guy in your avatar always looks like he's drunk off of home made wine. :-)

Alright boys I know it has not been 10 to 14 days but the wine has cleared up a bit and stopped bubbling so I decided to try a couple glasses :-P and I am feeling fantastic! It might be because I havent eaten shit all day but I am buzzin like a mothafucka. Sorry for the language but I consider this project a success and will be making this again!

If your wine is from a kit, it'll taste like cheap kit wine and probably give you a headache from the fusel alcohols. Yes, it'll get your drunk but there are cheaper ways to get drunk if your goal is to get drunk for cheap. The point of homebrewing beer or wine is to make something that you like, not just something that will get you wrecked.

To each their own I suppose but if you put some effort into it (pitching enough yeast, temperature controlled ferments, wood spirals, FRESH ingredients / no kits) then I think you'll be surprised how good it can actually taste AND it'll get you drunk if you want it to.

Pfffff I don't need a damn kit to make wine.grape juice concentrate, sugar, water, and yeast simple as that :-P.Plus try and find me something cheaper then 2 bucks a gallon wine. I will admit it kinda tastes shitty but I aint no pussy and after a couple water bottles full of this stuff its all worth it.

Like piss probably, but it'll definitely get you drunk...hehe. If you want flavour, buy proper wine...if you want rocket fuel to blast you into space, before crashing back down the next day...then drink homebrew. :)

There are exceptions, but in my experience there are more good growers than there are good brewers, and we all know how hard good weed can be to find sometimes.

The moss is pretty sweet tasting, we live in wine country, so I like getting moss from twe wineries here in harvest time.
Sweet and with lots of punch....
The black farmworkers ferment their own in plastic bags and filter it through old socks.... insert purple smily here.

Hey Brewer,

You ever make wine from a kit? I have to disagree with the "tastes like cheap kit wine". I made a kit two years ago from Northern Brewer that I would compare to a $25-30 bottle of wine easy. I think it was called Luna Rosa or something real close. Properly aged of course. Now a "box of wine" is another story. And of course there are shit kits out there.

Tonight I'm brewing up a Sierra Nevada clone. Yehaaa

Happy brewing!

I love Northern Brewer! My thing with homemade wine vs. homebrewed beer is that at best, kit wine tastes like a $10 bottle from the grocery store whereas homebrewed beer can rival the best beers in the world (with the exception being belgian sours, those beers are tough to make).

If you'd consider your palate to be pretty discerning and you really liked the wine you made, I might have to check that kit out. But thus far, my experience has taught me to brew my own beer and buy wine from the store.

Good luck with that Sierra Nevada clone. If you need a good pale ale recipe, hit me up!

Cheers!

I make home made wine all the time. The way you're doing it is certainly the quickest, easiest way but tastes like ass in my opinion. Fresh ingredients andd the correct yeast will make all the difference.

I'm pretty much done with wine, although, my wife wants me to do another run of White Merlot some day. Ya, Northern Brewer is my go to spot for beer stuff. I have always done partial boils with extract kits from NB. Of course always tweeking them up a bit. It's about time to start buying in bulk. Grew some hops one year - that was fun.
