I have been thru 3 different flowering cycles and the harvest has very little smell and a crappy taste. My question is this. After my cuttings show roots poking out of the root cubes I haven't really given them any kind of veg time. I'm forcing them to flower at about 8-10 inches tall. Maybe a week out of the clone box. Would that affect taste and smell of finnished product? If so how long should they veg before going into flower. I'm using cfl and flouro tubes(65k some 55k and a couple 27k ) then under 600 watt hps that dims. 300-600 watts. I also used the hortilux hps bulb.I also have the hps bulb in a cooltube setup temp doesn't get higher than 82*. Could that temp be hurting aswell? Laughing Buddha and a strain of kush were what I had to work with.

interesting. I was just wondering what makes the taste and smell.
A recent grow smelled wonderful while growing and some while drying.
Now that they are in jars the smell has started to lead toward a medicine smell.

The buzz is good and the taste is ok maybe a bit of medicine taste or that could just be my brain remembering the bud smell.
The smoke does not have any medicine odor.

So what happens in the buds and when is it happening to make smell, either good or bad?

Hmmm....I get the same taste from a clone that gets a month of veg, and a different clone of the same strain that I flower as soon as it roots...they are the same smell and flavor..one is just bigger than the other...lol.

So if the smell and taste are lacking it is either that those particular strains aren't good smelling/tasting...poor growing conditions....and also not allowing the buds to dry slowly and then cure over time...

So there are your 3 choices for why it doesn't taste and smell the way you want it to.

Do the plants smell when they are flowering? and then you dry it and lose the smell?

If so then tell us about your procedure for drying your MJ...

After its cut it goes into a 48"x36x48" wood cabinet where it stays hanging 2 weeks or so. Trimmed and put in jars. Some age a month or 2 Blythe time I start using it. Even the jars that age longer taste smells the same. Does the soil mess with taste and smell?
