What would be your thoughts before being executed?

I was reading a little about some old school executions, beheadings by axe and walks to the gallows and crazy shit like that! So try to put yourself in the mindset of a person about to be executed. Imagine you had 8 hours left, what are you thinking??

For some random scenarios...

-1790's France, execution method - guillotine

-1890's Texas, execution method - hanging

-1930's New York, execution method - electric chair

-1960's Georgia, execution method - gas chamber

lol

I'd imagine it would be the most terrifying moment of your life! How many people get to actually know when they're going to die...?

Or that scene in Braveheart, when he's in the cell before he gets executed, he know's what's about to happen. I think he even says "I'm so afraid" or something like that.. damn!

That would be absolutely nuts!! I hope I never know when I'm going to die like that. I guess I would take the gas chamber first followed by the guillotine. But I would assume that most of the time you have had time to make your peace and had WAY too much time to think about it waiting in your cell. No sense in thinking of things you never were able to do... too late for that now. Best thing to do would be to relive some of the better times of your life. Who knows if you carry those memories over to the other side? Is it better to spend the rest of your life in prison with no chance of ever getting out?? I guess it just depends on how prison life suit you.

If I was to be executed, I would choose the electric chair as it is the fastest. I would also ask the warden to sit on my lap and hold my hand when it happens. :-P
Why go out alone?

Shit happens, could have been worse.

And i would opt for a firing squad, think it's probably a bit quicker than the electric chair if they know how to use their gun.

Now, would this be as a result of a crime we did or just simple error of confusion?

Oh, and what's all this nonsense about 8 hours, these days is it not so that you can sit on death row in the US for years and years just waiting to be killed, that is just fucked up.

Id find a way to commit suicide before those bastards got to me! Surely Id be innocent anyways. Well maybe not in old school.. I like stealing apples..

Or if escape was possible... Hrmm..

He knew he wasn't merely going to be executed, but tortured to wrench a confession from him.
I would imagine that someone under less than such extreme stress would end up thinking about banalities. I vaguely remember thinking about meaningless stuff just before my wedding and my major academic exams, both rather stressful times that would ordinarily act to marvelously focus the mind, to borrow from samuel Johnson. cn

Hanged, drawn and quartered. Guts burned for the smell.

OTH, imagine the gas soaked monk, still and mighty, in the roaring pyre, a true show off.

I would find a way to kill myself before they did, so they wouldn't get the gradification of killing me. I would prefer my death to be in my own hands. But if it weren't possible to kill myself... i don't know, it's hard to imagine knowing what you would be thinking if you knew that someone was going to kill you in a week and there was nothing ANYBODY could do about it. Fear, frustration, anxiousness, anxiety, maybe even insanity... it's hard to tell when i'm not put in the situation and trying to run out the thoughts within my imagination.

Great topic, awesome to think about. Plus rep if i could.

I read somewhere that some seriously hardcore operatives were trained to bite their tongues and swallow their own blood to conceal their act of suicide until they passed out. I know I would not be capable of that. cn
